What's a good beginner's strategy for affiliate marketing

Discussion in 'Affiliate Programs' started by creditguy73, Nov 28, 2007.

I'm a beginner at this affiliate marketing thing and have been posting affiliate links on other forums for a clickbank product that I like and want others to try. I write a lenghty post concerning ways to improve your credit and debt reduction and have been posting the clickbank link in my signature space. However, I'll check the post later and find out that it has mysteriously disappeared. I'm beginning to think it's because of my affiliate link. I don't understand because I provide a lot of useful information in my post that can help people.

Can anyone offer a strategy to a beginner like myself? I'd like to promote the product which is only a paltry $7 anyway, but need to have an idea of where I can get my link out to others without having to suffer deletions of forum posts, etc. Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Yeah? It's called forum spam.

Why not try PPC, or creating your own site?

Ok, I see, thank you. I had no idea that it was not acceptable nor that there was such a thing as forum spam. I will make sure next time not to do that.
Thank you for suggesting PPC and my own site. Actually, the website is something that I'm considering for the next step. I just wanted to see if I could be successful with affiliate linking. I've been hearing about PPC and don't know anything about it. But it seems like a decent way to go and I will try it out.
    Much appreciated.

So... What would be the Ideal Do's and Dont's.... to start with Ones Own Webpage and promoting the Page through PPC???

    And another question....

Is there a good Universal Affiliate directory or sumthing ... to look for genuine Affliate programs... ???

If you are posting relevant information in a related forum, I wouldn't think it's spam.
    However, some mods may disagree.

Try submiting your article to article sites. Articlemarketer.com and isnare.com are very good for this kind of promotion.
Some members of DP offer posting in their blog networks, and they are a good way to promote your affiliate links too.

    good luck

Good point connectmobiles! A basic listing of the do's and dont's from someone who's been around the block a few times would help us newcomers out alot. I've been researching AM for a few weeks now and it seems that everywhere I turn there's more and more information to be digested. It would be great to have someone kind of show us the ropes. Thanks for the feedback.

use your own website as a way to market it, sell the idea that it is great but make it sound so great that you cant just post everything on the site and the user should sign up for a free newsletter or such inorder to get the real good details, then you have been technically invited by the user to try and sell them a product and it is not considered SPAM

And that's the key right there.

IMHO posting in forums isn't a way to get referral signups. It just annoys people and wastes everyone's time (and ultimately yours)...

You might check AssociatePrograms.com. They offer affiliate marketing training and have a very good directory for affiliate programs as well.

I found a small amount of success by placing affiliates ads within my articles on my magazine like website.
