i'm thinking no,but i want to hear you opinions.

i know google will treat you better if you use more then one anchor, but what if you use,say 100+ different keywords for the same site?
would google see that as trying to take over the internet (google owns that, btw ;) ).
(all keywords are related to the site)

i think for your sake, you should only focus on 3-10 at any given time.

100+ could look spammy, but it could also make you look diversified, depends on how googles feeling that particular today.

The trick is to use anchors that relate to your site. One of my site is just a funny pictures website, below is a list of the few anchor texts I would use...

    - Funny Pictures
    - Funny Pics
    - Funny Picture

I also sometimes use just my sites name or domain name, in my opinion this helps give you weight.

100+ is just an example.:D right now i have a list of 30 keywords (some of them are variations).half of them i'm on page 1-20.

i do have links with just the domain name.i also think that has some benefit.

You have to find good balance between quality and quantity of anchors. Belive or not, but rank high a new site for 100+ competitive keywords is not a piece of cake. But if you have enough time and money - go for it.

I think too much variation in anchors could trigger something and beside this, it could harm your seo as you are not focusing only on some keywords

In my experience you need variation in anchors.
Whenever I begine SEO on a site I try to choose the ten most appropriate and high traffic keywords for the industry and then find 2 additional variations on each of these keywords to give my 30 "golden" keywords to target with link building.
    An example might be;

    Base keyword "fancy bbforum"
    Var #1 "fancy bbforum uk"
    Var #2 "online fancy bbforum"

If you pile to many links with the exact same anchor text you will trigger Googles over optimization penalty (I have done this before, you will drop a few pages). I also tend to throw in the odd "{mysite} fancy bbforum" keywords as these look more natural and increase the profile of your sites in general.

I´m not sure whether using too many keywords would not weaken your key target. In reality "normal" webmasters will in most cases use a short name.

If you need 100+ keywords you'd probably want to make unique pages for them. Use anchors to each of those pages to narrow their scope. If you want a single page to rank for 100 keywords that don't suck. Good luck. It'll never happen.

This is what I was going to comment on when I read the OP start thread. Find directories or sources of posting that allow deep linking. I just started a directory for this exact purpose. Having a homepage cater to a number of things is darn near impossible. Take my main site, I sell swords...which kind? whats on the homepage? is it what people are looking for? Arghhh. Focus more on the internal pages, if you do a search for swords in google right now, I show up on page 7. But if you are searching for a specific sword, which I keyword tagged, I show up in spot 1 to 3 for whatever specific thing they input. Focus on a general theme for homepage and really use your SEO skills on the inner pages. It will work.
