About a month ago, I decided that I wanted to test something out. I created a page on my site (PR4) and linked to it from my signature in this forum. Within about a day or so that page was indexed, but after another day or so, the page disappeared completely. I was shocked! I assumed that it was a "sandbox" problem, but from what I've read, the sandbox just prevents you from ranking too well on keywords, but doesn't remove you from the index completely. I asked around, and couldn't seem to find an answer. Nobody knew why Google would drop the page from their index, even though I was following guidelines, and the page was SEO'd well. Finally, after talking to a specific member, I decided to just add a link to that page from my homepage, and to add it to my sitemap as well. Then I waited to see what happens. About a week later, I noticed the page pop back up into Google's index. Well, this got me thinking, so I decided to run another test. This time I created a mini-site on a specific domain, and linked back to it only through this forum. The site has plenty of unique content, and I avoided anything that would look even remotely spammy. Once again, the site popped up within a day or so, but just like before, it has now disappeared from Google's index. When I say disappeared, I mean that when I do a search for my exact domain, it doesn't come up in the results, at all. So, now I'm waiting to see what happens, before I add any other links. I want to see if Google intentionally dropped my site from the index, after they noticed that my only link was from this forum. Could that be possible? or am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated. I can give you the link if you need it. Thanks
Maybe it's the fact that it only has one backlink. In the past Google has indicated that they don't index pages that don't have any backlinks. Maybe now, because of the growth of the web, and their elimination of the supplemental index, they raised the threshold for the number links needed to stay in the index. Of course that's just a guess.
I have seen many well ranked sites with signature links ranking well. This is just a myth and i looked them up myself even.
iam very not believe in your experience, coz all of the kw i know was ranked specially doing forum posting, with their sig, and some has a good result on backlinks..
So, it's possible that they dropped it from the index because it only has one backlink. But, wouldn't they just not index it in the first place?
As I said, it was just a guess at a possibility. Maybe there is one part of their algo that adds new-found pages and another part that drops them if further checking shows that they don't meet the standards. Anyway, I don't think the fact that it's a forum link has anything to do with it.
Yeah, that's a good guess. The reason I'm wondering about the forum link is because I haven't noticed this before with any other type of backlinks, but it could be just a coincidence.
No, google isn't dropping pages indexed by forums. You need backlinks in order to have a lot of indexed pages. Generally, the quality backlinks (from authoritive) sites, the more indexed pages, and higher rankings your site will have.
It is likely that if you build a page that is not linked "internally" in your site that this will happen because of XSS exploits that spammers use to 1)create orphan pages on other domains and 2) get links to those pages without any internal linkage within the host site. XSS from 2006. Sept 2007 post but rehash of old trick. bottom line is no orphan pages. Try to link to all pages from 2 pages on your site. Got a page that isn't duplicate content but is supplimental? Link to it (make it relevant) from an indexed tier 2 page.
I am not sure of forums but for directories yes google removed all PR from inner pages. Also its banning or reducing PR of all link building sites.
