Why does the US government support the corrupt Saudi dictatorship?

Saudi Arabia has one of the most corrupt governments in the world. It has corrupted the judiciary also. But we see open support of the Saudis by the US government.

The Saudi monarchy has taken brazen corruptness to a level never seen before. The Saud family is plundering the birthright of all present and future citizens of Saudi Arabia. They are in on every big government contract, and their commissions can sometimes run into the billions of dollars.

Why close the eyes on this brutal dictatorship?

I would call it DOUBLE STANDARDS...

And only CHEATS have double standards...

 

because money is the most important thing in politics

 

"They may be bastards, but they're our bastards." I forget who said that, but it pretty much sums up international relations. Islamic jihadists (for opposing the Soviet Union in Afghanistan) and Saddam Hussein (for providing secular opposition to Islamic fundementalism) were 'our bastards' as well at some time.

A corrupt, mediaeval, but pro-Western Saudi Aurabia is deemed to be 'better' than an Islamic Republic. That's the thinking anyway, not sure I totally agree with it.

Saddam was used as a counter balance to Iran not Islamic fundamentalism.

 

Two reasons, one they supply about 10% of the worlds oil.

Two the alternatives are not better.

 

They supply the vast majority of oil , they are under the united nations which was signed in 1945 ( but doesn't mean much considering ) they offer many aid through out the world and they have a lot of money which makes them a candidate for more business and in turn makes them more beneficial to other governments regardless of opposition.

And the phrase -

" keep your friends close but your enemies closer comes to mind"

 

Gee. I don't know. Maybe it's because 15 of the 911 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia? No, that couldn't be it. Could we love them so much because they are teaching 1-12 graders Jews and Christians are "enemies" of Muslims. OR Every religion other than Islam is "false." OR "The hour [of Judgment] will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them." How about: "eighth grade text equates Jews with "apes" and Christian infidels with "swine." A tenth grade text teaches that the life of a Muslim is worth twice that of a non-Muslim."

The US tried to play Iran and Iraq off each other supporting both sides. It really didn't work.

 

Yes. And Iran was run by Islamic fundamantalists. Remember Ayatolla Kyomeni? (sp). He was seen as the Devil Incarnate after overthrowing the corrupt, but pro-Western Shah.

It was similar to U.S. support for places like South Vietnam in the 1960s. Let one go Communist (or Islamic) and the whole region will fall. (The 'Domino Theory')

 

Everyone has their price. Those who oppose this idea are in denial.

there is only one word "OIL" , if the Islamic Terrorists get hold of the richest oil country in the world then US$100.00 dollars "a barrel" , is going to VERY VERY VERY CHEAP. and will totally destroy every oil driven ecomony in the world.
