People wrote anything and everything about SEO, why should we chose to believe them in the first place. Just look at the number 1 placing try to learn from them and what they had done.

As long as there is no harm from meta tags, i don't see a reason not to use them.

I think the same as Philipoemen. And another plus is that you can put in you description tag well copywrited text that will increse traffic.

Google does not care much about meta tags. But, Yahoo & MSN do value it to some extent. Having meta tags does not harm in anyway. Therefore I would suggest to include meta tags in every page to give it a unique identity.

That's funny, because Google is using them on the 60 websites or rather 2 million pages i own.

The keyword tags is pretty useless, but I would definitely still make sure to write a good title and description tag, if not for the SEO value that I still believe that they provide, then for the simple fact that these both show up in search results and it's what users will see when browsing the results.

Although its useless on google as long it didn't hurt your site I don't see anything wrong in putting meta tags, beside some Ses still added weight on this one.

Let's just be clear. I'm only saying the meta keyword tag is useless, not the Meta Description tag or the Title tag. With that in mind, I would still include the meta keyword tag but I don't go crazy with optimizing it.

I agree with the posts above that the keywords meta tag is probably useless , but it certainly doesn't hurt. It's not like it's hard to type in a few.

There is no doubt that the title meta tag is an important component of SEO and I believe the description meta tag to be as well. Even if the description does not contribute directly to SEO results, I think it is extremely important in its role of converting views on a SERP to click-throughs from a marketing perspective.

They help you content/pages look more unique to google plus they do show up when you search so I don't see why anyone would say they arent important, I'm pretty sure your meta description helps with search relevency. Meta keywords however I think might not matter much or even at all.

The OP was about meta tags in general. I just checked some of my keywords in a Google search. Google is using my meta description, so at least the Description tag is useful, if you prefer that they use your words instead of a snippet from the page text.
