Ron Paul Endorsed by Brothel

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, an underdog Texas congressman with a libertarian streak, has picked up an endorsement from a Nevada brothel owner.

Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite BunnyRanch near Carson City, said he was so impressed after hearing Paul at a campaign stop in Reno last week that he decided to raise money for him.

"I'll get all the (working girls) together, and we can raise him some money," Hof told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "I'll put up a collection box outside the door. They can drop in $1, $5 contributions."

Hof and two of his prostitutes, Brooke Taylor and a woman who goes by Air Force Amy, attended a Paul news conference.

The women said they liked Paul's message, but wanted to learn more about other candidates before making a decision.

Paul spokesman Jeff Greenspan said Paul is a diehard supporter of states rights and an ardent libertarian who wants to return the purview of the federal government to what is articulated in the U.S. Constitution. Paul also is a devout Christian who opposes abortion.

"On a personal basis, he doesn't condone those things," Greenspan said of prostitution. "At the same time, from his campaign perspective, it's not the role of federal government and it's not in the constitution for federal government to regulate these things.

"The Nevada votrs and Legislature have decided it is legal activity in this state," he added.

In 1971, the Mustang Ranch near Reno became the state's first legal brothel and led to a movement that legalized prostitution in 12 of Nevada's 17 counties.

Hof was accompanied to the Paul news conference by television news personality Tucker Carlson, who is traveling with Paul for a magazine article he is writing.

"Dennis Hof is a good friend of mine, so when we got to Nevada, I decided to call him up and see if he wanted to come check this guy out," said Carlson, who hosts the show "Tucker" on MSNBC.

This doesn't come as a surprise. Prostitution is truly libertarian at its core, it is consensual sex agreed to by two parties through the exchange of money. It is something that the government should never regulate or outlaw, to do so is a waste of time. It doesn't surprise me that Dennis Hof supports and wants to raise money for Ron Paul.

While a number of threads have been started here at DP on the topic of prostitution, and whether or not it should be legalized, my solution is that it shouldn't be legalized or prohibited. The government should just look the other way, which is what is done in many countries. However, for many governments, the prostitution industry is irresistible, because of the huge revenues that are gained on a annual basis. Many government just will not overlook it because it can bring in so much in the form of taxes.

However, the problem with government regulation of prostitution is that like any "managed" industry, you no longer have a free market, and the quality of the market suffers. What I mean by this is, I've been to the Nevada brothels more than once, and compared to independent escorts and escort agencies, the NV brothels are pathetic, and in fact, I've heard their business is starting to suffer due to competition from agencies and independents.

I don't believe that any industry managed or regulated by the government can succeed when force to compete against a true free market. At the NV Brothels, you pay a lot, but you don't get a lot...........

Freedom in America is called "freedom" as long as the government can control it, government will outlaw anything it can't control or tax. You are free but not free to do what you want with your own body. Stupid laws!

After reading some articles on this issue of Ron Paul being supported by Dennis Hof, it has become clear to me that the media is once again trying to put him in a position where he can have mud thrown on him.

As it turns out, Hof was actually talked into supporting Paul by Carl Tucker, and then the media turns around and writes articles implying that Ron Paul's supports are pimps and prostitutes, once again trying to stain him. This is very similar to what they're doing with attacking Paul for the donations he accepts from White supremacist groups.

It is all a tactic to bring Paul down, but Paul's response to the Dennis Hof situation was brilliant. He said that, while he doesn't condone prostitution on a person level, the Constitution doesn't give the Federal government power to regulate or outlaw. Good going Ron, you outsmarted these sharks yet again.

It's all spin. It's failing miserably. As weeks go by, he continues to climb the polls, despite more and more hit pieces surfacing, targeting his supporters and their views, primarily. I really hope November 30th is a success, it will increase Tea Party results more than likely, and it will give the campaign the desperate help it needs for a good finish in Iowa, and hopefully a win in New Hampshire. Everything but time is on our side.

Haha, I have been saying almost the exactly worded thing since I started smoking herb when I was a teen. That and seatbelt laws. How obvious is it that is for the insurance companies? To me it seems pretty obvious. What does the government care if you die? But they want to fine you if you don't protect yourself well enough.

Another impressive endorsement! So far, we have the white supremacist endorsement, neo nazis, anti-semites, anarchists, 9/11 troofers, conspiracy nuts and now, apparently, the pimps and ho's endorsement!

    What a candidate!

Coming around to alex jones? Nah, when I feel like a nut, I eat a Snickers bar :)

    RP is no Jesus ;)

Huckabee just picked up Jerry Falwell's endorsement.

No, I've never stopped to wonder who would support Jesus if he ran for president. I'd venture to say it would not be those groups I mentioned above, though.

Thanks, but no. Very weak analogy and you are not going to convince me that the scum of our society would vote for Jesus.

    Next set of delusion?

This was a great endorsement for Nevada.

The smearers and front runners haven't figured out, that every time they attack Paul, his base grows. Attack politics never play well in Iowa, New Hampshire or South Carolina. The attackers always loose ground, and the polls reflect that.
