Can someone from Google or from reliable source prove that linking to a lower PR can decrease your PR? My answer for this is "NO" but we have to gather proofs regarding this issue. Thanks,
Unlikely someone from Google is going to comment on this Head over to matt cutts (a google employee) blog at mattcutts.com/blog/ and do a quick search for articles related to Pagerank. Although, he does work for Google after all so take it with a small grain of salt
if your site has a lot of low outgoing link(exchange link), it will definitely affect your site pr because of passing pr juice.
No comments on that But my take is if you find a good website and the guy offers links to exchange then go for it without any qualm and let me tell you, you will not regret as good websites are bound to do well, and yours will remain an old link Forget PR and do good old website building and link building
Ok, apparently some people are falling for the mis-information on pagerank and how it's passed between sites. You do not lose pagerank because you link to other sites, you do however give less pagerank juice to those sites since it is divided among them all. I repeat, you do not lose pagerank from outbound links.
IMO pr never degraded in a reason you are linking to low pr site, the reason why link traders looking for Pr is because it can give good benefit to them for Pr is an indication of site was a quality one.. but i think low pr unless penalized never harm your site.
I agree.. The answer is NO!!! Linking to lower PR would never ever ever reduce your own pr. However, If you are linking to a lot of lower pr themed good links there are chances that your pr may increase...
Its important to link to sites that are relevant to yours. If you have a site about cars and link to a low page site also about cars then that is pretty normal. If you have 400 links on your homepage to various PR0 free casinoviagra sites then.. well..
Hi, There are several aspects to note about linking a site with lower PR. Firstly, check its backlinks strength. That site PR might not be updated yet and it could be higher or equal to yours. If the site is relevant to yours and it does not link to other bad neighbourhood sites, then its OK If the site is not relevant to yours (and you have many of such sites that you link to) then you might be suspected of text ads and perhaps as we see lately, you may get penalized Finally, where do you place the link in your site. If its in your home page then it might not be good as preferably one should not have outbound links in the home page - especially to a lower PR site
THanks for the replies, well I guess there's really no one from Google would answer this. But the thing is we have to prove it. That's why we need someone from Google to answer this question..
You must've got the message by now. However I'll still share my views on the subject. I'm pretty much in agreeance with what everyone else has said up until now. Another thing we have to remember is that when everyone first starts off they don't have a page rank, we all start from Zero. We all need a little push now and again, and eventually we see an improved page rank, which will one day happen with most low page rank websites. That said, there is no harm in linking to a low page rank site so long as it is on related topic. The only thing that happens is that your site will be giving away link juice to the other site, but this doesn't reduce your page rank. To go a step further, even if the other site was penalised for some reason, your site wouldn't get penalised with it. But take care that the site you link to is based on a similar subject to that of yours.
My PR5 site has been on the 2nd page of google search results for six months. I just recently added some out-bound links to an affiliate site from a PR5 site that I own, and within two days, My PR5 site dropped from 2nd page in google search results to 3rd page. You can call that a coincidence, but I'm afraid to experiment further for fear of damaging my heard-earned PR5 status.
Think about it, the Pagerank is split between all links on a page. If you have a PR5 webpage, and have one link on the page that link will most likely receive a PR4 or even a PR5 and gets the full weight from the page. Now if you have 100 links on the page, do you thing those 100 links will receive the same "juice" as if there was just 1 link on the page? No, of course not. Your PR5 will of course have a number of internal links for navigation, let say 10. If you have no other links on the page your PR5 is split between your 10 pages, or rather 10% of the PR5 is passed to each page. Now add 90 outbounds and you have 100 links on the page, now each link is receiving 1% of the PR5 weight. If your links are now receiving 1% of a PR5 instead of 10% don't you think this will lower the overall pagerank of your domain? If Google didn't apply this "dampening" factor, Pagerank would snowball and all sites would have a high PR after a few updates.
I don't think it would affect your PR... I guess linking to non-relevant sites or sites who uses black hat would be a factor on your PR...
