Okay, so maybe the title was a little off, but you'll understand what I mean in a second. Do a search on Google for “best search engine“. You’ll notice that Dogpile is #1 and 20search and homerweb both make the top 10. In fact, Google is listed at 16 and Yahoo! was at 28. Why would Google not have itself as number 1? Does it think that homerweb, 20search, dogpile, and kidsites.org are better? Google obviously has more backlinks, higher authority, etc. What do you think? EDIT/PS: This post is for entertainment purposes.
but since they've just purchased a SEO company they might work on that. They're not even in the top 20.
I don't think anything. Why the key phrase "best search engine", even if you search for just "search engine", Altavista is #1 and there is no ranking of Google on the 1st page in Google itself.
Er.. All the ones listed on front page (dogpile 20search etc) ALL have google in them.. google doesn't quite market itself as 'we are the best search engine'.. none of the big ones do. If you notice, dogpile, 20search, etc all have "best search engine" in their title.. So they just get indexed a lot for that keyword.. I mean.. For example, googlesearch the term "best whore" - Results come up and some names that appear on top are: Charyan Brothles, Brittney Spears and Marolyn Monroe.. But we all know that isn't true.. It's Paris Hilton.. Just proving that having keywords in your titles mean a lot.. Google just has "google.com". Basically just giving a more detailed answer.. I'm saying the same things that everyone above me has said.
This is really funny. I just searched phrase search engine (without best) and Google falls in about the same spot
then , why you did this search in Google.com ? you just gone to Google becasue google is the 1st search engine for you ! ;-)
Google is hiring SEO professionals for optimizing their homepage details here http://www.google.com/support/jobs/bin/search.py?query=seo&Action.Search=+Search+&lr=lang_en&type=f
Sounds like they are looking for someone with search optimization knowledge, or in other words, someone that is familiar with the process of displaying search results. Why train someone on what goes into displaying results, when so many people already know and you can just hire one of them?
although funny find, Google search does not need to rank for those words, especially if you are using Google search to search for them
Dogpile is crap. Do a search on that stupid search engine. They mix sponsored results with actual results. Its way too hard to even point out whats natural search result and whats sponsored. wondering who searches there.
