Are you considering to run 'NoFollow' directory?

The web isnt going to change for any "SE" nor do we ever
plan to "no follow" any off our clients.

Consensus here is pretty much like 'no' to 'nofollow'.

But by not adhering to G's will... do you think your directory would deliver value to your submitters?

 

Nah would never as my links get the traffic they deserve and indexed properly. Yes my directory is new on the market but it gets valued traffic from great resources that we're listed on that are FOLLOW attributed and we value that the most in those owners websites.

To Follow or Not to Follow is not a question, it's common sense to Follow

 

Whether I do as google says or not has nothing to do with the value my directory provides to the submitter. A quality directory is a quality directory regardless of whatever rules the search engines may put into play.

And just because google gets more search traffic than others means nothing, McDonald's sells more hamburgers than anyone in the world but that does'nt mean they have the best burgers.

But here's what is funny to me, and that is all these directory owners being so quick to place no-follow tags on the sitewides and listings as if this is going gain them more favor in the eyes of google, or as if by doing so it will help them get their page rank back. I seen alot of sites doing this when the page rank maddness first started a few weeks ago, and just because they added no-follow meant nothing as their directories still took another page rank drop along with everyone else. But hey, if owners feel that it is more important to please google instead of the submitter than more power to them.

Ok, let's stay follow friendly.
Category pages and detail pages are OK.
This is what directories mainly offer.

But on many directories same link is repeated twice on same page (eg. one for thumbshot and another one for title).
Same on detail page.
Then many have top hits pages, latest links, some have pagerank stats or alphabet lists.
Do you really believe it won't hurt?
Yes it will . If not today then tomorrow.
And not only your directories but also your submitters.
So think of it.

Just suggestion. Do what you think is best for you.

 

Not quit sure I understand your point. Are you saying directories should put no-follow on the top hits pages and so forth?

 

I think that's basically what darge means, having no follow on certain pages such as top hits, etc.

Not only.

Look at category page on webcatalogue.eu
And first listing: there are 2 identical follow links for same listing
And some people even add 3rd as thumb.

I know you may have best intention, but you should be more careful with links. No need to double or triple it on same page.
It's really not good for all: your site, your client and SEs.

BTW: I'm sorry I post this example - it's from last post - just to show you what I mean and what should be avoided.

I completely avoid any directory that's nofollow.

What's the point? Most directories don't bring visitors. So link juice is what webmasters want.

Remember, Google is NOT God.
