Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe continues their legacy of starring in cool movies with this latest film, American Gangster. I've always been a fan of mob movies, and this film should be put up their with Casino or Goodfellas. It is a great film. If you haven't seen it, I won't spoil it, but Washington's performance is impressive. My favorite line in the movie from Washington is this: In this world, you're either somebody, or you ain't nobody. This film is similar to Goodfellas in the sense that, it is more business oriented and less high on the violence, unlike films such as Scarface, though, don't get me wrong, Scarface is bad ass. There is plenty of violence in American Gangster, but it is done with balance, flair, and style.
I seen it a couple weeks ago and it is pretty good. The new york magazine this month has an interview with the real frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes pretty interesting what they said.
I really want to see it. But I have to wait, won't come out here (Scotland) for a while, it's the same with most films unless they are made here.
My man...( See what i did there!? :-P ) I have watched this twice, and the movie instantly gained a place in my top 5. 9./10 from me!
Wow, nice reviews... I blew this one off, not impressed by the commercial I saw... I guess I need to check it out, I'll let the DP world know if it meets my high standards for a movie PS, for the people that have seen it, was this as good as the Departed?
Before entering the movie house, I think this film will be boring. But this surprised me that it's actually good. Washington and Crowe looks great together in the film.
