I have heard many friends tell me that Mac is better in terms of security... why is that?

    That's simply incorrect. Period.

See http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/ - if anything, MAC malware is becoming more common.

That's more accurate. And the reason is that there are far fewer Macs than PCs for malware makers to target.

    Uh-huh. Ignorance is bliss.

I just love it when Mac users brag about not using antivirus or antispyware utilities because "I'm on a Mac and I don't need that stuff"... I'm sure the malware makers love it too.

As I said above, subscribe to a few of the malware/virus feeds or email services. Note how increasingly new viruses are being specifically aimed at the Mac. Maybe it's all the iPod and iPhone users who are attracting attention to the Mac - I don't know.

But if you own a Mac and still believe you're invincible, it's only a matter of time...

Hackers don't waste time on macs, because they represent such a small sample of computer users...

As other people mentioned, viruses for macs are becoming more popular. It's because macs are becoming more popular! :)

There have been Mac viruses/malwares but they have been very rare.

One of the main reasons for that may be the number of people who use macs. Its very small compared to the PC users, so I don't think a hacker would be interested in doing something which causes just a ripple and not a tide.

It's what the prairies in Western Canada are experiencing as I type. It's not all that toasty here in Ottawa either.

That's awesome, but what if you want to save something? Do you have a different partition, or just use flash disks?

No way I could tolerate that. I'm still in my rebellious phase, hypersensitive to being controlled by authority, hypersensitive about individuality, and all that.

There aren't so many Mac users for hackers to feel the need to target it.

Once they become more popular, you will see an increase in the number of cases reported.

"No more calls... we have a winner!"

I think we've pretty much exhausted the need for any more posts saying "because there are fewer Macs than PCs". :D
