Im sure it depends to the name of your domain or subdirectory. If your domain or subdirectory has the keyword "dog training" example (www. dogtraining. com or www. animals. com\dog-training\index.html) the adds that will appear is about dog training. The title ,description and meta tags and contents must have the keyword dog training.

Take some research and you will find some adsense sites without contents but only adsense adds especially those sites that practice adsense arbitrage (or pay per click advertizing) but the adds that show are relevant to name of the site and its meta tags.

The domain does come into play but mainly if it fits the content. A good domain/subdomain the also matches the title, tags, and content is the way to go.
