The surprising thing would be if the younger people use it. I can understand if the old timers use it from their DOS - Win98 days.

I fear it will be lost on the new users that are starting out with Vista... ;)

Technically you guys mostly aren't talking about DOS, but the command prompt. I use command prompt/bash it a fair bit on bother windows and linux cause there are a lot of instances where its quicker to configure something via command line than go through endless amounts of GUI to get to a checkbox.

Looks like most people use it to troubleshoot. I'm a system administrator and use it quite often.

I like DOs very much and I was expert in it some 4-5 years ago... Now almost forgot... Only remember format, dir, cd.. and some few commands.... The format command is very simple thing when we need to format the disk.....

I often use DOS. DOS is still the operating system and still use to boot the system of our computer. It is needed when there is a problem with your computer.

I find it to be soo much faster to cd to a directory & findstr somthing than it is to use any of the UI methods involving indexing or anything.

I started when 98 was in 2000s shoes & 95 was somthing dads swore by. These days I like to start my paths with a forward slash.

That's like worrying whether the dishwashers on the Titanic would have had opportunity for advancement, isn't it ?

I still use DOS every once in a while to convert CAD files. Once you do it a few times its easy.
