What OS are you wanting to run? What do you need your database to do? What database server are you wanting to use?

Why are you wanting to set this up, if you have no clue how? Why not hire someone that has experience with this?

Probably the easiest thing I could recommend would be to buy a VPS, and the setup will be completed for you. All you'd have to do from there is design your database, which you can learn how to do online for free with tutorials, or you can purchase a book.

If you're looking to rent/lease/buy your own physical server, I would recommend a mainstream server distribution such as CentOS/RHEL. If you don't want to control everything in the server and want to make it a bit easier, you can install a control panel, good ones like Plesk and cPanel exist.

which hosting did you purchase? when you login to your admin panel does it have a link menu called 'fantastico' if so, you should be able to have a listing for blog software in that menu and should not only install your blog but also create the database for you. Companies that I know have 'fantastico' are Blue Host and Midphase

    1. If you have MySQL, go to the MySQL section, name your database, and select create. After that, create a username with password. Last step, give that username access to the database you created.

    2. http://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_intro.asp

    3. If your host provides the Fantastico cPanel addon, you can do this. It'll be available from your cPanel page, a pretty 'Fantastico' icon.
