people dont really understand how important these elections are. If hezbollas guy general aoun(the traitor) gets elected then lebanon will just might as well be an iranian proxy. If one of the march 14th guys gets elected then get ready for civil war. If you ask me they are all crooks from both sides.
Good point guerilla lolol. For true democracy to take place the people must always be vigilant to spot a growing trend of too much power going to the few at the cost of the masses. This is originally why our foundinf fathers put the office of the presidency indirectly under the control of the american people. If they awoke from their graves now their heads would be spinning 360 degrees.
Lebanon's presidential election postponed to next Friday http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-11/23/content_7134174.htm
If Lebanon was a legitamite country Hezbollah and the mighty Nasrallah would be the president! But the Americans would never allow it, you have to be white and christian. So much for equality!
hezbolla???????????????????????? are you nuts man? You do mean baby iran dont you. they are a militia operating within a state illegally. All parties in lebanon agreed to disband after the taif aggreement was signed except for hezbolla, and they dared anyone to come and take their weapons. All they do is try to start illegal wars with isreal and drag the rest of lebanon into it. Im sick of this the lebanese congress just refused Aoun to be president. He is white and he is Christian. hezbolla has stated many times that it wants to turn lebanon into an islamic state with islamic laws. No way this is happeninggggg. there is equal power sharing as the prime minister has to be muslim so you cant use this excuse. let hezbolla go to their homeland iran and live there?????
Hezbollah is not a race. Also calling someone white is a racial slur just as calling other races red, brown, yellow and pink.
I didn't say they were a race. And pingpong, Lebanon is Hezbollah's homeland, they would get the majority vote thus having the right to turn Lebanon to an Islamic state, that's the whole point of democracy right? Are you a communist or something?
What people do in their own countries, is their business. I think the lesson of Iraq, is that democracy cannot be exported at the end of a gun.
Grab my heat, hezbolla calls themselves patriotic nationalists? They started a war with isreal that only brought destruction to lebanon, allowed the syrian army to rape and pillage the lebanese people and their economy for 15 years and said nothing. You call them nationalists? I call them a rogue state within a state. At least the otehr thugs in the government finally came to their senses when they signed the taif aggreement calling for all rogue militia to turn in their arms. I dont want muslim rule at the point of a sword in lebanon and neither do i want christian rule at the point of a sword(even though im christian myself). All the people of lebanon deserve to live in peace. I was in the metn when both muslim and christian mountain villages were taken over by the syrian invading army, women raped, houses stripped of all their valuable and taken back to syria to rebuild their houses. Millions of syrians crossed the borders and were given lebanese citizenship to work in lebanon and bring all their money back to syria, draining the lebanese economy. I saw the syrian checkpoint there, and i saw how my cousins had to kiss their butts just to pass through everyday. Where were the patriotic hezbolla when this was happening. Lebanon is gonna slowly slip into civil war and that is gonna destabilize the whole region. This is getting very dangerous. Grabmyheat, if all the lebanese that were non shiite came back to lebanon, hezbolla would be a tiny percentage of lebanon. 30 million lebanese living outside of lebanon because of the current unstable conditions inside lebanon. I sure hope it doesnt come back to civil war. General Aoun i thought was the best bet because he used to support all lebanese people whether they were muslim or christian. He had a good rapport with iraq, iran, and america(since he was trained here in military school in louisiana in the 1960's i believe), but he bent before syrian influence and is now siding with them. President Lahoud has just vacated his presidential palace, cause he probably knows hezbolla will probably makes its move soon against the lebanese government of prime minister Sanioura. Guerilla , very good point, but someone needs to tell syria and iran that as well as our own government here this. I wish this were the case and the lebanese were allowed to solve their own problems but so many countries all want this to happen for many different reasons for their own interests.
This doesn't sound very compassionate, but America had to bleed and sacrifice for liberty 230 years ago. I don't think the same kind of bloody sacrifice is necessary, but people have to assume control of their government's for themselves, and overthrow despots, fanatics and dictators. Of course, you should learn from the West as well, and realize that you can't enjoy liberty without continuing the struggle, because the wolves always return. The most important step to maintain liberty is to establish strong laws, and always enforce them. Whether it is monetary, civil liberty, military, or government accountability. Laziness is the greatest enemy of man.
no it is not.. they do not have the right to change the laws other than what and how is provided within the existing laws.
I agree 100%, and i hope all governments including our own here in america will let the lebanese come together and solve their own problem. It was never really a religious civil war before, it was more regional and political. I sure hope the freedon loving people of both sides come out on top not the ultra fanatical phalanges(christian extremists or hezbolla, the islamic extremists), throughout the civil war it was the common lebanese tending to their farms and families that were killed, not the greedy politicians with the deep pockets. Guerilla so true what you said about learning from the west. I think if Paul is elected and he has the guts to implement what he is talking about now, our country will probably go through a cleansing process where we will start taking a good look in the mirror about all our past mideeds as a nation.
about the syrian shit it sucks and i hope the best for you guys now i saw this in bbc what is the problem with this. was there a counter offer? has he made a name public?
sorry to tell you all you need to learn some history and try to find out things by yourselves instead of being like media swallowing machine I know you are mad at me well i need to tell my point of view and urge you but this need sometime to explain unfortunately that discovered this thread late on the night see you after two days i'll try to round out some things for you out there especially those in the west i know they're victims of misinformations ciao
Pizzaman, Aoun knows he has Hezbollas support and syrias support. There is no oil in lebanon so basically they have no one to go to . Hezbollas goal is to turn lebanon into an extremist state. The government of Sanioura is basically a straw government. Right now its a state of emergency declared with lebanese troops deployed all over lebanon, basically it means absolutely nothing because hezbolla can basically sneeze and the troops would go running for their lives. Iran is doing to lebanon basically what we did to the whole middle east during the 1950's. they learned well, too well im afraid.
Shows how much you are kept in the dark, Israel was responsible for the war starting and the destruction of Lebanon, not Hezbollah. If it wasn't for Hezbollah Lebanon would probally still be under Israeli occupation and you would be living in a constant nightmare.
