I use directories to find other directories. So yes, i do use them to search for sites of my interest. Seen as most directory owners are after the bucks from submissions they dont list any quality resources, so for example if i wanted to find some useful f1 sites i couldnt.

Nope I never use directories for any searches. SE are a better choice. Directories are only good for link building (well at least from my personal opinion- no offence)

How very dare you ;) im just joking.

Not all, some directories are becoming all in one kinda resources, like portals where you can get more than the above mentioned, in early stages but heading in the right direction.

    That is about to change.

Many directories do not provide for the user over and above a search engine and a search engine would win everytime due to volume. New directories will fill this void ( or attempt to ) i hope to prove people will visit and use a resource directory but time will tell.

My measure if i am right will be unique and repeat visitors, but i do not expect this to happen over night. but i can say i am building for the public.

The problem is a general directory takes ages to become a quality resource. It needs more than a few links and empty categories.

I try build up each category into an acceptable state.

For example a description and useful sites really go a long way. Perhaps this is a good reference as to what i mean

Agreed, I think of my directory in this manner. If I am browsing a category and I can't find something "I would click on" then it needs more links.

I use directories sometimes, but mostly Google.

Google for everything - I would like to think that in the near future my directory will be seen as a valuable resource for quality websites as remains the constant objective.

I always use the directories I have bookmarked because I know I will find what I am looking for. Good directories narrow down my search. Whereas Google I find is not reliable as a lot of websites are not up to date with their data.

I'll be honest here, I use the search engines for almost anything, though I love browsing on web directories especially to gain some ideas in order to improve my own web directories.

I also use the web directories to find other quality web directories, I think directories are useful and will always remain useful.
