Hello, I am starting new page and there will be some categories in it and they are not related to each other example: music and films, so I will make front page which links to my subdomains with explanations of them, will it hurt me in SEO way ?

Why not just launch separate websites all together for the unrelated topics? The last time I checked, Google treated subdomains as seperate sites, but my info is about 6 months old.

g still treats sub domains as separate domains, but from SEO point of view, u will need more efforts to get good rankings, that is the initial part, but in the long run once your main domain gets a good PR and becomes an authority site, then it is much easier as far as subdomains are concerned, but totally unrelated subdomains can do more harm than good

Using sub-domains will not hurt you SEO wise, there is much mis-information out there related to this. Search Engines view sub-domains as seperate sites, so if you want to base certian fields (films, music, etc) around one branded name and site sub-domains is the BEST choice.

Look at CNN as a great example (Thanks Dan!), they use sub-domains to seperate their content, money.cnn.com is consider a seperate site but still inter-linked in the authority and brand name of CNN.com.

There is no problem with sub-domains.They work well and dont affect domain.
I have myself made 4 sub domains of my website which are getting a lot of good response from search engines. But it must be ensured that domain should be old by say 8 months or so.

No problem, ssandecki. Yahoo! is another great example of this at work.
