Does anyone know much about phpbb?

I'm looking for some help

I have taken over the music forum i my sig. I am new to forums and unsure about a couple of things.

Firstly for some reason any links within posts as in the example below will not show until the user has posted in the thread? I understand this is not normal but I have no way of knowing what if any mods have been installed?

It says that if you have VIP status you will not have to post to view the link - this is not the case. a simple post here reveals the link.

I would like to be able to restrict these links to only people with VIP status if this is possible but primarily sort it so you don't have to make a pointless post to see it.

The second major issue I have is redirect

I notice that forum.mvdownloadz.com and forum.mvdownloadz.com/index.php are the same page but duplicated. I want to redirect the index to the non index.php

I have tried using the mod rewrite I know but this does not work - perhaps its because it is a subdomain?

Anyhow, if anyone can input on these points I would be most grateful

 

Do you want to rename it something like portal.php? Do you want to create a different page like a new welcome page on index.php?

If so, there is a variable that defines which page should become the default page of phpBB. You can change its value.

 

Hi thanks for the response. It was a really a redirect I was after but I have sorted this now.

Now I just have to find out why the links are behaving the way they are I will be sorted

 

its a hide hack, not sure where you can disable it in admin panel, but normally its a usergroup setting

 

ah right thanks. I have not found the options anywhere in the admin.

It also seems strange how it only hides the link until someone has replied in the thread. I would understand more if only users of a certain group could see the links - which is in fact how I would like it.

Is there anything I can do about this?

i think its the hidehack that is hardcoded into the php files, it got no settings in admin panel.

you can roll it back to undo the changes, make sure to make backup of the files first, and also make sure you got the correct hack.

 

great i will do this - what exactly is the point in such a hack?

Would you know of any hack that will allow only users of certain groups to view the links? I would love to allow VIP users to see links right off and normal users to not see links

the purpose is that people not only leech downloads by clicking link after link, now they are forced to make a post before able to get something.
it got positive and negative effects with this kind of hack (no options), for example i have a hack in my forum that can do hide like yours, hide for points, hide for usergroups, attachment hiding and most things you can think of.
that kind of hack is more usefull, but not available for every forum software.
i don't know such hack for phpBB, i don't run phpBB and never did because (before v3) it was so limited in functions and security.

yes, thats correct, but i develope it myself, and not a convertor for it yet, only a (partially) finished vBulletin and IPB convertors are in the make.
