A really easy search and you would have found your answer: https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=21593 AdSense Setup > Competitive Ad Filter. That's as detailed as you need. The AdSense link even has pictures.
With adsense preview tool, you can do it. But completely you can not block them. Sometimes it can fall your CTR !
er , you can completely block the sites which you want to block , and how will it affect the ctr ? the ctr is all on blend in of the ads & content.
Procrastinator is right. Has nothing to do with CTR/block whatever you want. AdSense preview tool sort of sucks, btw.
I don't block MFA long time ago since I know that google have automatic block them for me. The first ads on your page will pay highest and after that the rest ads will pay a bit. That mean no point to block them. just put the first ads in the highest CTR position. That's all
I use ad-filter from www.adsblacklist.com to avoid Made For Ads (MFA) and Low Cost Per Click (LCPC) sites
I wrote this on another thread, but wasn't 100% sure. Can you give sources? Also, Google doesn't automatically block MFA sites. Some slip through the cracks.
I wanted to say, you can not block all MFA sites that your site shows. You can not find all of them. But yes if you block xyz.com , xyz.com would not appear at your site. CTR effects if those ads highly attractive !
No reference but it come from my experiment. I use channel to check them. Think that you are google. First time, you don't know how many ads will show on the page, right? if show only one ads, no point that google will pick the low CPC to display. they will show the best CPC first for make maximum profit. I can make money x2 from remove only the first ads out. as I told you if the first ads have low CTR don't keep it because the rest will be MFA or pay a bit.
I dont think it works this way always, mfa used very low paying keywords which may target your site so it displays higher then other high paying. Example: Your site is Health related and you have title and keywords, which mfa sites exactly used so rather then showing high paying keywords adsense may display mfa because keywords and your content is more relevent. So Blocking mfa's alwasy works for me.
This is not correct. I dont know why Google tends to show lower paying ads first, but they often do. They do not block MFAs automatically. Not too long ago I had to block a bunch of MFA and crappy sites and my earnings increased like 10x This isnt exactly MFA (they are Made For Other AdNetworks in the same way)but if you have sites like these your earnings will be VERY low http://allghostpicture.info/ http://ghost-sightings-central.com/
Actually, Kentuckeyslone those are parking pages not MFA's. The second example is a "parked.com" site and uses Yahoo. Also sometimes parked pages earn WAY more than a developed site with adsense on it. For instance I had one particular domain which would get about 150 uniques/day and with a very well laid out MFA site up I was making about $2 per day. When it was parked it was making about $6 per day. As far as using the competitive ad filter goes it works but since you can only have 200 sites filtered you need to have multiple accounts if you have a lot of sites. Another problem is you must add or change the filtered sites regularly as the MFA site owners now change their domains regularly especially if they are using arbitrage. As we as ad publishers get smarter so do the MFA owners. Does the filtering work? yes, absolutely! I change mine often but not often enough. Yesterday I saw a drop in adsense earnings of about 25% so I looked at the ads and found what seemed to be the obvious ads which were causing my revenue to drop. I added them to my filter and my revenue is up by 30% so far today. This is obviously an important if you use adsense to monetize your traffic. GL John
I said that they were not MFAs. They are on the same level though. The only difference is that their ads are not Google ads
OK Guys, I saw many replies don't agree with me that google will show the highest CPC first. Make experiment by yourself and you will know very easy by put a custom channel for all of you ads. write down CTR and CPC of all positions. below is example of my experiment long time ago, I am not sure for the number but you can try it by yourself Before adjust ad#1 CTR 2% CPC $0.2/click ad#2 CTR 6% CPC $0.15/click ad#3 CTR 1% CPC $0.10/click After adjust ad#1 replace by link unit ad#2 CTR 8% CPC $0.2/click ad#3 CTR 1% CPC $0.10/click I can double earning from only remove the ad#1 and replace by link unit Don't trust me. you have to prove by yourself.
