Newbie-Domain Name MX Records & Email Questions

    Hi All,

    I bought a Domain name and changed the DNS to my hosting account. It asks if I want to change MX records. What exactly is the purpose of MX records and why would one want to change them?

    Also, they are asking to set-up the email there at the domain register, but I thought I handled all email at my hosting? If there's a choice, what's the best way? Or do I have to do both?

    Hi, I'm by no means an expert on this, but I never change anything except the DNS settings to point to my hosting account and I never worry about setting up any email at the domain register. MX has to do with mail as well. I've never had to bother with any of that and I just set up my mail through my host as well - as you said.
