well what type of hosting are you on? shared? vps/dedicated? that would help, but most control panels show the amount of CPU (processor) and RAM being used, of course it would show a red light or some sort of alert if the server was being overused making it slow.

    1. Click on the Start Menu.
    2. Click "Run..."
    3. Type "cmd".
    4. Type "ping" followed by a space, and then the Hostname (IP Address or Domain Name) of your server.

You will then receive a response similar to the following:

There is only one section of this whole response that you need to acknowledge (it has been bolded for you). It is the average time, out of 4 tries, in milli-seconds, that it takes for your server to respond. Best of luck. :)

Nah, ping isn't the ultimate decider at all...the network and realtime routing from your pc to server might influence ping times.

Not to mention, ping won't tell you how loaded the server is running in terms of webrequests and mysql db usage.

Let us know what hosting you have.

does your current host offer you some sort of control panel? Most panels will allow you to view the current status of your server, etc..

Also if you have root access you generally can get more info such as Apache usage, etc..

See how fast your site loads in the browser, next I would say download some file from the space you have and check the download speed that you get and compare that with some other host you know.

Usually many hosts provide a test file to download. So, their potential customers can check the speed.

You cant determine it actually. Visitors of your website can. Though, you can have a guess idea when you know the port speed etc. of the server.

Network connections, resources and everything on your computer and server does matter.
