Myspace or facebook clone

Hey, I'd like to add some sort of social networking ability to a website of mine. The reason I wrote myspace or facebook clone is just to give you an idea of what I am looking for. I don't really need something too complex.

Anyway, I'm not sure what programming languages are best, how long it would take or how much it should cost. I just know what I want/need.

The purpose for this thread is to ask for some advice as to where you guys think is the best place to find professional help for free. When I say free, what I mean is that I don't want to have to pay to sign up on a website, haha not that I am looking for someone to work for free.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are many sites that allow the client post projects for pros to bid on and in most cases it is simply the pro that has to pay - eg guru

As to cost, it depends on the exact functionality and if you want a mod of an existing script or a bespoke. There is a fair amount of work involved in these types of sites so bespoke will be very expensive for anything that comes close to facebook etc

 

Hmm, can you possible give me an estimate?

I just want to have some idea of what I am looking at?

For example, I have a forum which uses SMF but I would like the user profiles to contain a lot more information. I would also like members to be able to search for other members based on many different factors such as location, gender, age and so on. Can anyone give me an idea of how much something like that might cost.

I tried searching the freebies section for the keyword 'facebook,' but the query came back with too many results. I also tried searching for 'facebook clone,' but that gave me nothing.

Have a look into "PHP-Myspace", and "phpnukemyspace" and "phpbb myspace extension"

 

To be honest - "a simpler version of Facebook" is too high a level requirements to give any meaningful estimate on. At UK rates a complex off the shelf script requiring moderate modifications would be circa £1,500 where as bespoke could be anything from this up to....

Depending exactly on what you want to do costs could be limited without functionality limitation through use of things like Googles new social networking Apps facilities etc but to be honest we havent been asked to create such a project so havent looked at how easy they are to integrate (the two times we have been asked for quotes the people have had budgets of $250 which in the UK wouldnt get you any where)

 

Ok, I just wanted to add that maybe what I need is not so complicated. One of the things I would like to do is simply add more fields and options to the profiles on my forum.
