We recently started a new site (www.BeeDrop.com). It's an online database viewing system where people can add their own information. Due to the nature of the site a large number of pages (thousands) can be created every week. When the site first started traffic was increasing at a nice rate every week. About two weeks a large number of pages were added and this week traffic declined dramatically. The pages are still listed in Google. It would be nice to know what caused the drop off. Is it a good idea to limit pages on a new site ? Could something else be causing the decline ? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
I woundn't think that the reason for your traffic decrease because of a mass amount the pages (how many, by the way?) However if you are in fear of this than you can always use a robot.txt file to stop the google bot dudes from entering certian urls.
Blocking them then letting them crawl a few at a time would be good or just add a few pages at a time to be safe.. Fast growth changes could be negative but its debatable nobody can know for sure.
It's up to 46000 pages. The signficant decrease in traffic happened when the page count whent from 36000 to 46000 in a single week. All of our link development efforts are going to main page (www.BeeDrop.com). Is it a good idea to develop links to other pages as well ? Or is it better to concentrate on the main site page ?
Search engines like natural linking which normally includes deep links (other than home page). this will help page rank for the important pages you want to rank in the SERP's for competitive keywords.
It would only be a negative if they were spam pages or fake content... I think.. Otherwise every large scale website would be penalized for growth.
