Typical, you turn it around on me, instead of addressing my statement that we all help promote the Saudi regime that does this.

Do you support the Saudi Princes GTech? While your tax money is taken by coercion, and I can sympathize with that, do you feel that our politicians should be so friendly with the people who run this system of abuse and torture?

Put more simply, if a politician supported the Saudi government, would you vote for him? Are these human rights abuses a significant issue for you?

The street is extremist and the elite are more moderate.

Suudi Arabia has an internal struggle and it appears that Nayef is winning against Crown Prince Abdullah. Maybe the Saudis are just playing us?

    The Saudi Paradox

    http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20040101faessay83105/michael-scott-doran/the-saudi-paradox.html

Summary: Saudi Arabia is in the throes of a crisis, but its elite is bitterly divided on how to escape it. Crown Prince Abdullah leads a camp of liberal reformers seeking rapprochement with the West, while Prince Nayef, the interior minister, sides with an anti-American Wahhabi religious establishment that has much in common with al Qaeda. Abdullah cuts a higher profile abroad -- but at home Nayef casts a longer and darker shadow.

Ok, but still, what is moderate meaning in Saudi Arabia? Moderate is relative and moderats in SA is not like moderates in USA.

The fact of the matter is she was in a car with a strange man willingly, if she had a followed the law
and not gotten in the car with a man she had NO reason to be with, she wouldn't have been raped.

Prevention is better than cure. Take the UK for example, the conviction rate for rape is like 5.8%, that sounds more WTF to me.

Tho the Saudi judges are wrong, in accordance with Islamic law the rapists should have been put to death.

    -----
Dont give me BS about 'death is too harsh for rape', this is your double standards, if it was your mother or daughter, you would see death as too little for the rapist.

What do you mean by saying "NO reason"? She should not have to have a reason, her reason is none of anybodys business. Like in any normal minded country she should be able to do what she like to do.

And of course death is to harsh for rape, it was good that the judges didnt kill the rapists. Maybe in a distant future we can see sensible laws in Saudi Arabia too.

Well yes it is, because it was the reason she got raped. What i mean is, the man was a stranger she had no reason to get into his car. Saudi arabia is a theocracy and under Islamic laws men and women who are strangers to each other, shouldn't mix alone.... and if she had followed the law she wouldn't have been raped.

But the reason she was in the car is not relevant. She was not raped because she was in the car, she was raped because the men in the car was idiots. She would not have been raped in all cars in SA.
I hope you dont say that she can blame her self for being raped?

I can't believe that in 2007, I am reading these words. I am astounded, disgusted, beyond my ability to remain civil, so I'll keep it under wraps.

The woman is owed nothing, NOTHING, but utter compassion. Your medieval views need to go the way of history. Perhaps you and TWalker could form a club, I guess, but please leave the species to another choice, 'kay?

So, just to be clear... a woman realtor, for instance, showing a male prospective client some homes - SHOCK AND HORROR - torture the bitch? That about right?

I wish I could say face to face all that I feel.

    What are you talking about.

This law is to protect women like her from getting raped in the first place and you know what it actually works when its followed.

SA is 65th, LAST on the list!!!!!!!!

    America is 9th!!!!!

    Try to answer these questions:

    1) Do sovereign countries have the right to make their own laws or should they get USA and yours approval before?

    2) Did she break the law by ignoring it?

    3) Do countries have the right to punish people who break the law of the country or should they get your approval first?

Is the law stupid? yes, I think is stupid but do you think it changes the answer to any of the above questions?

The law is stupid because it limits the individual freedom. unfortunately as long as people believe in stupid religions and some countries decide to make the religious laws also their own countries law, the rest of the world has to deal with it.
The only way to stop this situation, is to educate people, so they stop believing in such laws. :)

    So explain yourself better.
You think she deserve 200 lashes. I am happy that most normal people have another view.

Gworld likes to play grownup, and make the attempt at cogency from time to time. Yes, yes, got it, Gworld. So long as there is a relativistic argument to be made, and so long as it doesn't intrude on the narrow corridors of your own mindset, you will make it.

Aceday, you represent evil. I rarely say that. But you and your mindset have placed the women that birth you, nurture you, and comfort you, in a state of pain and misery, and you have no place in the world I know.

Now, I'll be sure to tell the nun from the local parochial academy she risks getting 200 lashes for driving school age males to the latest basketball game. Whore! Slut! Give her the whip!

lol you really have weird interpretations of what im saying, this woman was NOT innocently getting in a car to go somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im too sick of explaining the irrationality of peoples arguments.

Now because i support a measure that stops women getting raped, i am the root of all evil.

Its the western societies that treat women like crap, objectified like no tomorrow, anytime someone wants to sell you something, theirs a half naked woman.

Sorry, guess it was your alter ego making pronouncement on the millions of professional women worldwide who enter into cars with strangers as a matter of course in their work, or any other situations where a woman does WHAT THE HELL SHE WANTS without seeking to get RAPED.

Unbelievable. Sadly, believable. Thank you for showing a part of your mind that was previously hidden.

Call me crazy. It is my deeply held belief that a woman is free to do whatever the hell they want in life - they aren't owned by me, or my gender - and if some piece of dogshit rapes that woman, he is entirely at fault, and she is to be given comfort, not further torture.
