Does China have any copyright laws?

I know that China is going to come out with its own TLDs very soon and obviously it is growing financially. Would people there be able to steal everything at will, like copying entire sites (content, pictures, videos, selling your merchandise etc) without having any reprucussions?

Also, why does China not have strong intellectual property rights? I believe it is to the benefit of their country economically to do that.

I think that the Chinese authorities are becoming increasing embarrassed by the blatant and widespread violation of copyright, but their economy is growing so fast that much is very anarchic.

For instance, it is estimated that there are over 70,000 riots in China every year, a direct consequence of the massive social fracture and change that is taking place there.

The Chinese authorities have a lot more to be concerned with than copyright violations of Western companies - at the moment.
