No silence does not mean defeat. If he earned even half of the amount i.e 500 bucks, that is still a good amount. You may say that he failed, but let me ask you, except for a select few who have lots of resources established over time, how many of you earn $500 per week. Forget week, how many of you earn $500 per month? He may not have won the battle but he is quite successful with the war.
you went from saying "even if he earned half that amount" to pretty much assuming that he made $500 in a week. chances are, he didn't. but i'd love him to prove me wrong....
