Is My Addon Domain Content Duplicate Content, Google?

    Hi All,

To all the SEO experts out here:

My hosting providers allow me to host multiple domains on a single account. The way it works is, I have 1 main domain under which I can add many more addon domains.

When I create a new addon domain, a folder is created within the main domain. Now, my question is,the contents of this folder can be seen from www.maindomain.com/addon_domain/index and also from www.addon_domain.com

My hosting provider tells me that all addon domains are created this way.

I just ran the content on my addon_domain.com page on copyscape and was amazed to see my main_domain.com/addon_domain within the search results!!

Both these domains are very new and neither of them have been submitted to the search engines/directories/rss on any of those things.

Could all the experts in here please clarify?

    Thank You

Here's what you need to do. 301 your "domain" directories (the directories that your addon domains to be pointed to) to the addon domain, and then in your primary domain's robots.txt file, block direct access to the directory by search engine spiders.

So basically if you were to type in myfirstwebsite.com/addon-directory it would be redirected to mysecondwebsite.com and nobody would be the wiser. The denial of access by the robots.txt file would just be icing on the cake.

Thank you for the quick reply.

But, if i just block folders in the robot.txt file, any browser of my main website can see all my sub domains ..right?

If they view your main domain robots.txt then yes, if this is a problem then just do what Dan said and 301 redirect the subfolders to your corresponding addon domains.
