Adding a forum

    Hello everybody.

I'm ready to open a travel web site for a particular city. I would also like to add a forum to it. Both to be used with Adsense for my income.

Since the web cms website and the forum software are different to each other, i would like to ask the following:

Should i open the forums to a subdomain for example "forums.mytravelsite.com" or just make it in a directory like "www.mytravelsite.com/forums" ? Technically it is better to separate them, but how about Adsense ? Would it be better to be as a "whole" ?

I can use the forums iframed.

I would appreciate any help, since i'm new to adsense and i do need to get things started.

    Thanks !

I don't see how it would make any difference from an AdSense perspective. I put my forums at www.mysite.com/forum myself as I find it easier to deal with than subdomains. Also beware that AdSense income from forums is low. Forum users are very adblind.

Not if you know how to place the ads in good positions.

Yes, i hear that all the time and i'm not sure if it is right. Maybe the hightech forums ? My forums are for travelling to a very specific city.

But time will tell and the forums are the half of the site.

    Thanks !

Well ... i will need traffic from seach engines. And i read that creating subdomains is not very good. Some say there is no problem.

I don't want to start something and then have to change it.

I think that the forums directory could be more friendly to visitors. Also since i will IFRAME the forums, the Adsense ads will be on the main information website, along with the travel pages. If i add adsense to the forums, it will be somehow between the postings.

    Thanks !

I just answered a similar question. I would recommend building your forum as :www.site.com/forum mostly because it's easier to deal with.

Second, forums usually have a low click through rate but there is an alternative to that as well. I explained that in my article at my site:

Adsense Alternatives for forums with low CTR

I think this may answer a few of your questions.

you can also use it iframed ;) forums tend to get a less CPM. so if you're keeping everything iframed, they'll read forums and clicks ads from website.
