My advice is to not worry about Alexa Rank. It will come with traffic, I promise. In my experience, I've just Ignored Alexa completely, and my sites usually follow the same trends and get alexa rank as traffic increases. I'm not sure the exact method Alexa uses, I'm sure they must be putting code somewhere else than their toolbar though, or getting raw data from third parties though.
I agree that alexa isnt very accurate .. you dont have to do anything to get alexa ranking .. jus concentrate on ur traffic and numbers will automatically show up .. @cyberserge .. wheres the alexa widget page?
Hi ... furniture27 made the conventional point: lots and lots of traffic, preferably with toolbar installed. Well, Grub Street gets a fair bit of traffic, about 14,000 uniques a day, and 65,000 page views. The site is a PR4, with several inside pages PR2-PR3. The point is, a fair bit of traffic, with a wide variety. The Grub Street Alexa tanked about 3 months ago, and isn't coming back. I tried everything, even pushing the traffic, thru much hard effort, to 55,000 uniques and just under 500,000 page views for a couple of weeks, but no change in Alexa; in fact, it keep falling, and I don't have the content to maintain the level of content necessary to hold 55,000 uniques. Tried the redirect (http://www.redirect.alexa.com?redirect?www.grubstreet.ca) and nada. Ran paid traffic campaigns directed specifically at Asia, where the toolbar is ostensibly more widely used, and nada. Used the UpMyRank, which is a paid-to-view website, and all members must have the Alexa Tool Bar installed. Nada. Currently, I'm running general campaign targeted to webmasters, with two Alexa widgets on the page. Too soon to know if that's working. If it doesn't work, I've got one very pricey option left. Ugh Does anybody have any other ideas? I'm about bagged out on Alex. You'd think Amazon could do a better job. Alexa can up date my description, but not my thumbnail. i wonder who and why would still care about their alexa rank? well if you really care do a search on here - there is a thread somewhere about a way to artificially boost your alexa rank - not very honest trick - but whatever
