Google announced that it will reduce the clickable are in its adsense ad blocks. Soon, users will only be able to click an ad, only if they hover the mouse over the title, or the URL, and not on the whole area of the ad like it is the case now. How do you perceive this? And how would this affect earnings?
I think it's a good thing. Why do I want accidental clicks? I'd rather get clicks that convert for the publishers who pay me. How is this a slap???
I have to repeat what Fka200 said: How is this a slap? It is a good thing. It will make sure that this whole system lasts longer and improves its quality. Improving the quality means more advertisers, keeping the current ones, and even higher CPC (because advertisers are now more sure their ad will be clicked by those who are really interested). Higher CPC means more revenue for publishers in the long run. Again, this is not a slap. This is the right thing to do.
Fka200 and you, read this to know how it is a slap if you still did not figure it out. http://www.johnchow.com/one-more-reason-to-dump-google-adsense/
I read that before I posted here. Re-read my post to understand my reasoning. If the visitor isn't really interested in the ad, he would not find himself accidentally clicking it now on. This will probably decrease earnings in the short run, but it should increase it in the long run. This is not a slap. This is the right and the ethical thing to do. You should understand that advertisers are not people with unlimited dollars who want to give you the most money. They are mostly people like you who are working hard trying to pay the bills and keep going. It is unethical and unfair that they are charged for accidental clicks. Again, this is one step that should improve the system and make it work better for both advertisers and publishers. Advertisers will be more confident making business with Google and they will be willing to pay more for genuine clicks. This should translate into a higher CPC and more or at least equal revenue for publishers in the long run. It is a good step to improve the system and keep the advertisers satisfied. Advertisers are the ones paying you, and it is therefore essential to keep them happy.
This is nothing I already didn't know. Give me better reasons. I don't care if my users can't click the background accidentally and make me money. What's more important to me is that my traffic converts. If the user is interested, they DON'T CLICK THE BACKGROUND. They treat it like a NORMAL link (links that have been running for over a decade) and click on the title and/or URL. Once again, I don't see how this is a slap. This is actually better for publishers who would like their traffic to convert.
oh well lol, it'll reduce invalid clicks but it'll probably reduce all clicks since it can confuse some people and they keep on clicking the description lol - just a theory
google likes to slap these things.. All the people that say its a good thing will have a thread soon enough saying there revenue dropped 50% .. Only about 5% of your clicks are people actually interested in whats in the ad.. The other 95% is accidental clicks because they slipped there mouse or they think it is a part of your site.. I've seen these random ad clicks all the time during school.
I really doubt this. Since I'm not here to argue and only voice my opinion on why this isn't a bad thing, others can carry on the thread. And trust me, I'm not going to make a thread bitching about the decrease in revenue. My online projects will still pay for my expenses regardless if the money is coming from AdSense or not.
This is only a splap for the people that love to make their adsense blend in so much with their content that sometimes you accidently click on an adsense ad. This is a good move! Advertisers will feel better, and they might spend more money now knowing that invalid clicks will drop.
Its a good thing in my opinion. If an user intends to make a click then it ought to be the actual link and done totally intentionally.
Very good thing to do IMO. Had to think about it for a minute, but yeah, I think in the long run it'll help all publishers who're actually sending converting traffic. MFA sites or sites that make adsense fit in perfectly with content just might suffer...
