Sweetfunny, you should try again. I feels great to build up a locality from nothing much to something useful.
Fella is sitting beside a stranger at a ballgame and strikes up a conversation. Oldguy: Did you happen to see the new bass boat they had for a door prize? Stranger: Fishing? Bah. Tried it once... didn't like it. Oldguy: I understand, I'm so busy hunting these days I seldom fish either. Stranger: Hunting? Bah. Tried it once... didn't like it. Oldguy: Well, for me it's mostly a chance to get away and smoke a few cigars anyway. Stranger: Cigars? Bah. Tried smoking once... didn't really like it. About that time a young man sits down by the stranger... who leans over and says to the OldGuy... This young fellow is my son... only to be interrupted by the Oldguy who interjects... Let me guess... he's an only child.
Ya know, sometimes it only takes once... and not all things deserve a second chance. Editor1: I quit because of what the meta team did to a fellow editor. Editor2: I quit because of what the meta team did to a fellow editor. *later* Editor2: I have decided to be reinstated and mock editor1 for leaving for the same reason I did. It is the nice people like you that have turned many potential editors away, so there are people out there not even willing to give it that one chance. Whether you like it or not you ARE a spokesmen for the directory. No go on an and say I only added 6 sites one of which was mine. I'll gladly point you to several instances of editors telling people to apply to be an editor to get their sites listed. Again, your being helpful to trolling ratio is still not all that great. Try being nice, and the world will be a better place. You are above this petty behavior.
Blah blah blah... your entire post was an attempt to start flames while I'm trying to help a submitter with a question. This forum *could* have value if the mods start slapping your wrist every time you do this.
Your post before the one I quoted was rather decent I must admit, however, the one I quoted was rather useless...or is it OK for you to act the way you are chastising me for? The point of your post was to give it a second chance. The point of mine was that's not always something people wish to do. The difference is my post was actually based on personal experience.
http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Inter...ent/Hosted_Components_and_Services/Redirects/ is a fairly heavily subscribed category and so I guess that you are in a Q. Could be a while before a review. Try applying to edit the cat you obviously have some knowledge of sites like that. But be honest if you do, declare your own site, though you can use it as one of the ones you will need for your application. Look at the descriptions in the cat and be clear about the fact that your interest is because you work with that type of site and you are offering mysite.com as one of your three suggestions. Also ensure the other 2 are very suitable for the category.
I has rejected yesterday by Dmoz , i own this website and i think is against Dmoz terms , maybe they think i want to be an editor only to promote my website ( Dmoz isn't for marketing ... something like that , i don't remember well now the message ...)
It sometimes takes several tries to become an editor. Perhaps your descriptions weren't factual, but more marketing hype. http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html
So in order to make kids and ladies safe, you list pedophile, rape and other illegal porn sites and have no control over giving editing rights to kids to edit porn listings in adult section.
Welcome back from your ban. The way to avoid those is to contribute to useful substantive discussion. ~ Thanks
I believe we were talking about why editors are advised and encouraged not to respond to submitters, gworld, why are you quoting one thing, and changing the topic it refered to, to something else?
I'm gonna guess "force of habit"... the same reason another resident injects every single thread with pitiful OT self-referential jabs because he's disappointed the 30 minutes or so he actually spent working for the directory didn't turn out like he wanted. If the mods think it's not trolling it's their call, but I've decided to report attempts to derail substantive discussion until they toss one or the other of us out. If it's me, OK, DP will just be stuck with these guys who can't be of any assistanceand refuse to allow anyone else to help.
Because in light of DMOZ practices, it is quite obvious that your post about DMOZ wish to "protect kids and ladies" is nothing but typical excuses.
I think what happens in this forum with some of you is that you have no real knowledge of the Directory, or what editors do, so you have to make up things off the cuff to distract anyone from getting the real facts from those who do know. You can't talk fact that you don't know, so you talk trash. I'm not sure what it is you're trying to accomplish, but, it sure isn't helping your fellow webmasters learn something about the inside workings of the Directory and how it operates. I hear lots of complaints about the Directory not being transparent enough, but when some of us come in hear and try to give you some serious insight, you allow these yahoos to trash the conversations without speaking up for yourselves, and I don't quite understand that.
The only information that you have given about DMOZ internal working is that in order to survive and thrive in DMOZ, the person has to be a total sycophant. While understand that this is your honest opinion as it is confirmed by your actions and postings in all forums that you participate, I hope you can understand that many people will not agree with your methods.
I wish you wouldn't use big words, it's kind of irritating to have to look up something in the dictionary. sycophant - one using flattery to gain favors Whom have I flattered and what favors am I trying to gain? You lost me.
I had no choice in using the word since if I used the proper word which is a combination of back side of a human body and the act of kissing, I would have probably get an infraction. On the second part of your post, I think the answer is obvious to anyone who has seen you in action.
