Craigslist is pretty big and there are lots of marketing opportunities in it. Share your experiences and successes here
I keep my cl marketing secrets a hush because I don't want too many people jumping onboard : ) there is lots of ways to make money on craigslist good luck!
I personally haven't tried it but from what I gather it comes about from thinking outside the box. You can't blatently market your website - but you can drive targetted potential prospects to your site if you are clever about it. GumTree is another one for the UK - I've noticed my Adwords Ads that appear on that site convert very well.
Also try out myspace and facebook classified sites, that can attract more viewers especially if you've decent profile and good friend network.
Facebook fliers can be profitable. It's worth a try to advertise there and try to sell them something. But the best thing right now is facebook apps! It's still pretty new and this is the future of social marketing. Get a creative idea, team up with developers and make the app that people would like to add to their profiles.
CL can be successful specially when you don't spam. A million visitors a day is something unique in its kind. I created my own version of craigslist http://www.webcosmo.com Its doing very well.
This thread would be great if anyone is willing to give some tips on craigslist. I have had no luck, and the listings get shut down almost every time. I'm not sure what to do to make this work,
What is considered duplicate? Can you sell the same item but change the listing around a bit? Also will they detect your url if you put that into different listings in different cities? Thanks
Yeah, this thread will be a gold mine if people would post one or two tricks they use...But I doubt it will ever happen... Now, what about Tricks & Tips Trade by PM?? I give you my trick in details, you give me yours in details...Fair enough? And when I say in details, that means everything, no BS, with the risks and the good... Of course my method might be something that you are not prepare to. I explain: I may make money with one kind of site that you may not have, making difficult for you to use my trick....
I have used Craigslist and things have worked out okay. I can tell you that when I posted on Craigslist without having an account my postings were flagged and removed within 5 minutes. By creating an account my postings are rarely, if ever, flagged. Create an account, it worked for my site. Good Luck The ConsumerTreehouse.com Team
"I have had no luck, and the listings get shut down almost every time. I'm not sure what to do to make this work" Let me guess, your ad had a link to the affiliate program that you were trying to promote. Craigslist has some very smart anti-spam filters and a whole army of users that will report you to CL if they see your ad is spam. That's a huge roadblock to using CL to promote aff progs. and the like. There are other roadblocks that you need to circumvent if that's what you're trying to use CL for. I'm not saying it's impossible but it's going to take some work and know how. It's not as easy as using CL to make money by selling the junk collecting in your garage which I've done myself. Here's a few techniques just for starters: Post from different ip addresses. Use different email addresses. That's just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. CL isn't making millions by being stupid. Are you up to the challenge? Let the battle begin.
Well said Indeed there's a lot of testing and tweaking to do and many things to consider to make this work regardless of what your niche is. But it can be very rewarding.
Good advice KenL, never thought about the multiple e-mail addresses and different ip addresses. Thanks for passing that along. The ConsumerTreehouse.com Team
What I have tried to put on there are items that I would like to get rid of that have been sitting in my inventory to long. I put a link to the item and the description. I have been doing similar litings in different cities, because those are the items that I want to get rid of. I dont think that is spam, when it's a good item at probably the best price you'll find on the web. People are selling used and new items all the time, thats what it's for. Thats why I dont understand why I keep getting shut down.
You should read the account forum for craigslist, it answers alot of questions: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/forums/?forumID=9 Proper marketing on craigslist can be very profitable, but it's very tricky and you have to do it just right. Like the others said, I can't give you direct guidance without affecting my business there. However I can tell you to read the terms/conditions very clearly and make sure you understand them, you'll get around all of the reporting problems if you do it right.
just a curious question, not flaming anyone. Is "marketing" on craigslist just spamming? or is there other ways?
