Exessive kewords in meta tags!!! Will google ban me?????

Discussion in 'Google' started by life31, Nov 13, 2007.

I just wanted to verify that can i get banned by google adsense if i use exessive and keywords not related to my site in meta tags????

Actually with not related keywords I dont mean totally irrelevent but somewhat closely related to the site but not having any content about it.

Can that lend me in trouble. What if i repeate a word again and again but with other words like a phrase ect.

Example: If health i my niche and main keyword.
Can i use it in meta taga as health care, health topics, health advice......................... ect ect ect......

    Thanks for our advice.

Google does not even use the keyword meta tag, it is ignored. Basicly it would have 0% effect on your Google indexing and SERPs. Other search engines are another story, I personally never use more than 10-15 keywords\key phrases, but that is my opinion.

Yep, not much profits and some risk to be marked as a spamed content... not worth to overuse keywords.

I don't think you will get marked as spam, but it may not benefit you. I think I read somewhere that 150 characters is more then enough. You shouldn't be optimising for too many keywords per page anyway, as it will never happen. Try 3 - 4 to start with nd then maybe add a couple more.

I do not agree with this statement. Meta tag keywords do not carry the weight they used to but they do serve a purpose and are not ignored by Google or any other search engine. meta keywords+meta description + title + body content= elements of on page topic determination.

It is the content that people see you need to be concerned with. Do not keyword stuff body content. Write naturally and with an authoritive tone and you will prevail in the long run.

Cool, I just didn't want anyone left with the impression that meta tag keywords serve no purpose at all :).

Oh, they are useful for other search engines, I believe Yahoo! still uses them, not sure what weight they give.

+rep for getting your point across ;)

I have seen no effect, i have a few porn sites that I just loaded with keywords that had nothing to do with my site, but had to do with other adult sites, and they turn up high on google. Like my siteA has a meta tag with competitors SiteB's name and it comes up 8th on google when you type in his sites name. Other than that name there is no mention to that site on my site. So I think google still does use them...wouldnt they have to, for me to get that kind of results?

The reason that keyword tag is ignored is because of the blatant abuse of it. Anyone could put a lot of irrelevant keywords to get say an Internet Marketing site ranked for the current fad keyword like Brangelina or something like that to get more traffic however irrelevant that traffic might be. It is the equivalent to what is used now to accomplish the same task:

The old method was using the keyword tag.

The newer method, which is not really a new method since it was also used when the keyword tag was still useful is:

Making the font color the same as the background color for keyword phrases in the body of the document. This is considered search engine spam.

If you want to get your page noticed then you want stay consistent with white hat techniques for SEO, and provide quality original content that is naturally keyword rich based on white hat seo recommendations for keyword density. And make certain you add new content regularly. As your domain ages it will get better ranking.

If I am not mistaken, for SEO based on white hat you shouldn't optimize a single page for more than one or two main keywords. I may be wrong, because I am not certain about that. Keyword density is supposed to stay somwhere around 1% to 3%.

If you still want to use the keyword tag, then I would do like the other poster said and only use 3 or 4 phrases. I would mix in high competition keywords with low competition niche keywords.

I got your point right away. The thing is, keywords as a term should not exist, it's too general. What type of keywords...theme keywords, syno keywords, Stop keywords (and, but)? The real "Keywords" to focus on on the one's that convert on your site. I like to call them "Money keywords".

Google patent may also help understand the way Google is thinking in a broader view.

    Cheers,

The perfect search engine would be one that puts the control of that algorithm in the users hands. What if you could search based on keyword density settings? or based on domain age? what about keyword count ranges? or User generated ratings? And on and on...

I think it's unnecessary to have too many keywords in your meta tags. You are wasting your time. Get more backlinks and create more contents instead.

google ignores the meta tags . using them will not help you but using related keywords on any places of your site is against the google quality guide

I am assuming that was intended to mean "un-related" keywords, but even so I don't think it would matter. I mean it is your website so if you want to talk about basketball, ballet, and your car all on the same page I don't think google would ding you for that.

Now that I think about it, I believe I know what is being referred to in that post. I read somewhere on Google that for SEO it is best to have 1 main consistent theme throughout your website, instead of a scenario like I described above.
