You should place some adsense near the search bar, right now your ads are really out of the way for what your visitors are looking for so they won't even looking at them.
Definitely get rid of the pop up if you want any return visitors to your site. Losing potentially loyal visitors is not worth the $0.01 you'd get from them viewing the ad. Other than that though the site looks good. Good job!
