    Simply the homepage. Homepage is possible that will increase PR and passes the link juice to the inner page.

    You also wanna look at the content of the sites. If PR4 site has better content I would go for it. Homepage is always more appealing to human as well SE.

    pr5 page is homepage. pr4 page is inner page of pr5 page(1 click away) which compare with another pr4 homepage.

    There cannot be two homepages- so I'm assuming you mean a PR 5 home page with two PR 4 inner pages ?

    i think what he is saying is :

    site A : pr5 homepage, pr4 subpage
    site B : pr4 homepage

    link can go on the subpage of site A or the homepage of site B.

    you need to look at the outgoing link number on both pages. lower is better.
    then content - similar to your own is better.
    if both are almost equal, id go for the homepage link.

    It would really depend on which site...

    I have a forum with a portal (in hopes of expanding) currently however, it's just an extra step in getting to my content.

    Mysite.com == fair traffic
    Mysite.com/forum/ == good traffic

    I know many other sites like this as well, and would take traffic over any other perks that are to be offered.

    Take Digital Point for instance, when was the last time you went to the actual home page here? yeah, it's got a one up on PR, but the forum pwns for traffic.

    My advice:

    The difference between PR4 and PR5 - get the one with the highest related content/keywords to your page, that's what is really going to raise your SERP, if you are just into the PR Voodoo, go for the homepage.

    Thanks Steb. The answer depends on a variety of factors.

    Qryztufre gives an excellent example of a site whose inner pages might get more traffic than the home page ;)

    In most cases, the home page tends to get more traffic than the inner pages. Plus, most links are built for the home page, and there is a chance that you will gain when the home page increases in PR.

    The number of outbounds and their quality is also something that you would need to keep in mind.

    It all matters for the PR juice to pass from where you get the link. The PR of the page where link is placed is to be considered and not other inner pages.

    The one most related to your website will bring in targeted visitors but the homepage would be a better link that should carry more weight.

    yes, that is what i mean. more detail:
    page A: pr7 homepage, pr4 subpage .
    page B: pr4 homepage.

    often, link seller said, their link page are from high pr site.so it is good to buy.
    if a pr4 page from a pr7 good site, is it better than a common pr4 hompage?

    I read an article yesterday from SEOmoz (Article link here) saying homepage link pass more juice than inner page. But IMO it depends on whether your strategy is to strengthen PR juice or SERP. Home page link should in theory pass you more PR juice, but notice that PR =/= SERP. A relevant link from similar theme should help more in terms of SERP.

    Candle put it very well I think. In either case, if you can leave the link there for a very long time (3-4 years +) then it will start to help you site more.
