I stand corrected. I haven't owned a Dell in years, and now favour HP. Thank you for that link and bringing ubuntu to my attention.

I am ALWAYS looking for alternatives to windows and that black hole of corporate avarice -MS.

I can't believe MS would not have included an exclusivity clause in its contract with Dell. I am sure there will be penalties for allowing this shameless free market competition.

It was kind of BG to donate a billion dollars to India towards fighting the epidemic of HIV. But I didn't realise, as a customer, that Microsoft's over priced goods and services could be attributed to a hidden social services excise tax:)

Vista may take up too many resources and have a lot of glitches but...

    BOY DOES IT LOOK SNAZZY!

    Woooo I love Vista ;)

Vista is jazzy but does not offer any incremental benefits over XP. Especially after SP3 for XP comes out its going to make sure no one leaves XP.

Vista is an excellent bit of Kit, It has it's problems, but further than that I think it is absolutely brilliant.

I bought a new laptop with Vista Premium and I really don't like it...even after upgrading to 2 Gb of RAM it is still really slow. I'm considering buying XP Pro just to get rid of Vista...I can't stand it much longer

One word of warning about HP - they're notorious for failed batteries and loose AC ports on their Compaq and HP brand laptops. I'd much prefer Toshiba for quality.

Ubuntu is fantastic. they just realesed 7.10 and it's even cleaner and crisper. Built in package manager helps Linux noobs get the apps they need very easily without having to use terminal apt-get commands.

I still run XP, but I'm slowly making a full transition over to Ubuntu.

I just went to Intel Channel Conference 2007 at Ritz Carlton KL and what I saw is there is a lot of big potential and advantages that can only be applied on vista paired with intel near future h/w and application.
just wait for next year 45nm tech..

XP for the win, its going to be the best for a while yet, until Microsoft plays around with Vista a bit i think :)

Vista's look is much sexier though, but thats obvious.

If XP more stable, no need lot resources, compatible with most driver. So why should I upgrade to Vista  when I still can work using XP without have any problems.

    XP all the way ;)

Vista was started before Windows XP, and was apparently built from the ground up.
I just bought a laptop with Vista pre-installed, at first I was very annoyed. But, just disable a bunch of features and its alright. Some things to disable right away are the UAD and Aero. This take up tons of resources and slow the computer down to almost a halt.
If you can, stick with XP or Linux for the time being, i'm just too lazy to downgrade.

vista is basically xp loaded with a tun of crap and some pretty visual effects. (windows trying to be more like a mac)

Xp is the way to go IMO.
