My Bid Directory and What to Expect in the Future

I was not going to enter the 'bid directory' market because I am not one to simply follow the crowd. But I had a couple of unique ideas when phpld bid was being developed so I got on-board and had some custom programming done to make my directory unique. I have also added some unique articles (and intend to add more). My idea was to get away from just offering one niche a shot at the home page like most other bid directories and offer a more balanced resource.

    www.TopUrlSearch.com

My question is: Now that my directory and the articles are indexed well, I am also starting to rank for some decent keywords and getting some traffic. My minimum bid is $16 and that is for permanent links. You can also choose $8 regular non-bid type links which are also permanent.

Should I lower my initial review bid prices? I was thinking $16 for a permanent featured link was fairly reasonable.

Should I offer less home page links? Right now it is set for 2 per category with 10 categories? I thought a total of 20 home page listings would be a good number, especially with only 2 per category.

Should I offer lower regular review prices to get folks started in the directory?

    Open to all constructive suggestions.

I think the review price is ok...no need to lower.

This is a quality directory and I really like the design

I have also submited my new project

    Thanks for the opportunity

2 per category on the homepage is nice. 3 at the most.

$16 is the price. 16,000 backlinks. Well indexed. I'd say $16 is fair, experiment with it though - see if you make more with it lower. Cached pages, traffic and content are the way forward. I dont need to tell you this though, youre experienced enough.

Thanks for the input. I always base my pricing on what value I would be happy with as a submitter, but for this directory I have not had as many submissions as I thought I would. Many of the categories still have the sites I seeded at $1 or the original $6 and $10 deals I gave out.

The internet is a huge place. Webmasters are everywhere, but they dont all come to DP. Many methods of advertisement are needed away from DP to bring customers.

Your new pricing seems fair, what a lot of people fail to understand is a business for one simple line ad in a paper would cost that for one week, then get placed into the bottom a kitty litter tray.

To a business that is chicken feed for exposure if the directory is well known, we have have spent up 15K a week on ads in the normal domain, so give good quality and exposure and you could charge much more.

Personally i would charge a yearly fee, once again its chicken feed. good luck with the directory, looks good:)

Yes, I think in general, internet promotion and marketing is in it's infancy because of potential for such great (and affordable) exposure world-wide.
