What To Look For When Submitting To Directories

Directory submission is an easy way to acquire one way link. But there are few factors to look for when submitting:

    1. Ensure that the directory is already indexed. Best to check in Yahoo and Google as they are the BIG players
    2. Ensure that the directory belongs to a good neighbourhood network
    3. Ensure that directories do not participate in link farm - It is best to use a "temporary" email address just in case you get spam
    4. If you are to pay for listing, check the PR of the category you are submitting your URL into - Consider if its worth the money
    5. Click "view source" in any of the directory web page category listing and ensure that it is not using the <nofollow tag>. Also do not submit to directories that use cgi script as your listing because you will not get any back link

Yup thats about it. Please feel free to add on. Cheers

That is a nice read, One more point is how well the directory is promoted as you also pay for that, becuase there is really no point in hunting for PR ;) So when u submit, just ask yourself how much traffic you can expect.

Hi, Its true I agree. Directory like Business.com, dir.Yahoo, Alexa and others can provide some traffic.

But the current trend now seems to be that directory submission is used more to build links rather than as a traffic source.

    Agree?
