What to ask SEO companies?

I'm highly considering getting a SEO company to do all my SEO, but I'd like to know what to ask them to find out if they are credible or not.

A few questions that I plan to ask are:
    1) May I see your portfolio and customer success stories.
    2) What is your approach?
    3) What is the timeframe of the SEO work to complete? (This is a trick questions, as the answer should be ongoing).

Anything else to add? Thank you.

Hi Swiftie, I have an SEO Company and here are the most common questions.

    - Who are some of your clients?
    - How long have you been doing SEO?
    - Is it full-time or part time?
    - Are you in the US or abroad (very important for contracts/legal reasons)
    - How do you build links?
    - Will I receive the list of links once purchased?
    - Do you hand select each link/review each site individually?
    - What is your ethical stance (white, grey, or blackhat?)
    - Are the links exchanges, permanent, rented, etc?
    - What is the minimum pagerank and outbound links on a page your except?

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thats what you want to say away from :) Cheap is not always the best solution.

Choosing a quality SEO company is a hard task. Just like buying a $3,000 HDTV, do your research before you buy.

just interact with them to get all of your answers and also tell them of your objective behind the seo campaign.

Hear what they have to say and try to gauge their knowledge and see their portfolio with case studies.

also check if they are updated on latest development...

    good luck

What about before asking them any question to check if they even rank well for their targeted keywords?

That's one idea that I was thinking about, I was looking at http://www.submitexpress.com/optimize.html (I found them on #2 for the keyword "search engine optimization" in Google, only #2 to Wikipedia), and then have a list of their ranking... very impressive to say the least.

Would you feel comfortable going with this company on this alone?

Ask for some example sites and what words they have helped them rank for.

If you eventually sign up with the company ask What keywords you should target.

I have dealt with numerous SEO companies and none of them will ever do keyword research. I think an seo company should be telling you where the possible gaps in the market are, you shouldnt have to point this out to them.

    Just my 2 cents :)
