I was thinking about getting a dedicated server to run my server sites i have, however i don't know what im getting my self into and if it will as simple as the cpanel i have now. I currently use 1and1 and there cpanel is great, however when i contacted in regards to starting a dedicated server they say its a bit more complicated. Should i learn about dedicated servers before ordering one???? Or will it be to run and manage??? thanks for any advice in advance.

If you don't know how to manage your server, make sure to either get a managed service or hire a system administrator. There is quite a bit more to WHM than there is to cPanel and if you don't understand how your server works behind WHM then you will likely run into problems when things break or you will have security problems pretty quickly. Running a dedicated server can be as easy as just using cPanel with the right host and management level, otherwise you're going to have to spend a lot of time learning system administration.

Then don't do it. Get a small server or VPS for yourself, and play around with it. Erase windows from your PC and install linux (or use dual boot). After a while you be fit - then it is time to start thinking about running your own server.

WHM is actually pretty easy to manage, even for newbies. If you can get a managed server, then this option is preferred. That way, you can play with the sever and if you get any trouble, there are administrators for you :)

Don't touch unmanaged if you dont know anything about linux, optimizing etc.WHM is good but if you don't know how to fix errors, its nothing.
