Uhm... yes, there is a huge difference. 4GB of RAM is 4 times as powerful as 1 GB of RAM... or did I miss something in your question?

I think he meant in the computer's performance.

If you are not a heavy application user, then it won't make a big difference.

RAM is mostly used for temporary files only.

If you are running a lot of programs, apps, docs at the same time, then 4Gb RAM is a lot better since you can run a lot more programs and apps without causing your computer to slow down. :)

Don't even worry about benchmarking 1 vs 4 GB of RAM. 4 GB will win out every time. Your computer will run much faster, and you will see performance increases on everything.

    The difference.

If you have a strong processor(4 Ghz) 4 GB of ram are very recomended. I think it will be one of the powerfull computers . :)

But If you dont have a strong processor, as mine is (2,4 Ghz) is good to have maximum 2 Gb of ram. This assure you a good performance of you PC and that's mean relax :)

I'm always confused about the way memory is sold. Is that the price for a single 2GB memory stick, or is that the price for a "memory kit," which would be 2 x 1GB sticks? My laptop can take up to 4GB, but it only has two slots, so I'd have to have individual 2GB sticks.

If it is 2 piece it will say 2*1 GB

even your motherboard, you OS might not let you use 4GB (AFAIK windows xp home's max is 2 GB

Does that imply that Windows XP Professional accepts more than 2GB? I'm always running several applications at once, and I could benefit from having even more memory.

i saw from MS website that you can configure the startup file so it take 3 GB

after i read a few article, you don't really need 4GB. for most user, 2 GB is same as 4 GB.

2GB would be a huge improvement over my current RAM configuration; I've been needing a RAM upgrade on my laptop for a very long time. It's using 512MB DDR2-400MHz RAM when it should be using DDR2 clocked at 533 . 2x1GB kits have become so cheap for my laptop, maybe it's time for me to upgrade. :D
