Get A Page Rank Drop - How To Ask For A Reconsideration From Google

The recent powerhouse implementation by Google that saw many sites had their page rank dropped sent ripple effects and mixed reactions.

Bottom line is the recent page rank update was seen by many as a "warning" from Google with regards to paid links, particular the blog industry. But yet so many sites which are not selling links also got their page rank penalized.

GOOD NEWS. Below is a modified post by Loren Baker from search engine journal, which I find extremely useful -

How to get a reinstatement of your PR if you are wrongly penalized

    • First, make sure that you are not breaking the Google Guidelines or selling links which would lead to your Page Rank score falling. You don’t want to go telling Google you’ve changed your ways when you haven’t and you certainly do not want to say that you never did something they are frowning against, when you do.
    • Then log into Google Webmaster Tools (if you do not have a Google Webmaster Tools account then create one, and validate your site with them.)
    • Select “Request reconsideration” from the Dashboard on the right hand side.
    • Then read the fine print very carefully. By requesting reconsideration, you’re telling Google that you have violated the Webmaster Guidelines in the past and to your best knowledge, are no longer violating them. If you break the guidelines in other ways, be sure to address those changes before reporting your site changes to Google (because you might be opening up a huge can of worms).
    • Request Reconsideration: Have everything together and sure your site is meeting the Webmaster Guidelines, then fill out the form, tell them about the changes you made, and hit the Request Reconsideration button.
    • [Just remember folks, this Page Rank update is still rolling out, so before taking action, you may want to wait and see the final result of the changes.]

A friendly reminder - Make sure you have "cleaned up" your site before making the request

    Good Luck

    What is this non-sense?

The reason some sites lost PR was due to their backlinks losing PR. If you have a concept on how the pagerank system works you would know your PR is determined by your backlinks. If one of your backlinks PR changed you can expect yours to change as well.

Also, the re-inclusion request is only for sites that have been banned - ie completely de-indexed.

NOT just cos your PR dropped

who said a loss of pagerank is some kind of penalty? there are many reasons why pagerank is dropped, some of them have nothing to do with the site owner or selling links.

Ignore pagerank, since it can't even be used to sell links anymore...

Nope, I think you got that wrong.

Example - search engine journal got its page rank slashed to PR 4 and now after the request, its back to page rank 7.

The request is not for sites which are banned. It is for sites that are rightfully or wrongly penalized to request for a reconsideration from Google

    Regards
