It's Veteran's Day in the United States. Regardless of your politics or mine, or what country you come from - to all honorable vets, a day of peace and respect, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

May we live to one day no longer need your services, worldwide.

    Same here! Happy Veterans Day!

Ironically I just talked to my dad to wish him a Happy Veterans Day. He was at the cemetery with my mother visiting the grave of her father an OSS Bronze Star recipient... He remarked that there were no flags placed as of yet. Odd...

To those that serve and have served, again, we thank you!

Some of our veterans are still POWs and many do not have adequate care. Remember their sacrifices, but also remember their plight today. There are a lot of organizations you can google up, to find out how to petition your member of the house to further relief and care for the people who have given so much, so bravely.

Make their future your cause. Honor them with your action.

That is why it is crucial that our democratically controlled congress pass the Veterans Benefit bill they are trying to kill...

Thanks to those that are still in, and mostly the ones overseas...

If anyone has the need to send a hooters calendar or other stuff to someone over there, PM me, I've got a few APO addresses of good guys... I'm sure WebDevHowTo and GTech also are still in touch with active duty guys...

If nothing else, atleast find a vet on myspace and say happy vets day...

From the article, which basically sums it up:

-And I couldn't disagree more. As a vet myself, I know what it is to be a vet, and I honor the men and women who are in the military today, with everything I've got. As I earlier said, regardless of politics, these people leave their families behind and are prepared to commit themselves in a way neither you nor I cannot, sitting here in our rooms clicking away; the commitment is measured in the end of their life. As I said, I hope for the day when there will be no more need for veterans, truly. And I, personally, believe (and hate) that we are squandering their lives today. But this has nothing to do with why we honor them. Hate the policies that put them where they are, but do not dishonor them.

This sums up exactly how I feel also. Regardless of the politics of foreign relations and war, I can't see how anyone can feel veterans aren't some of the most honorable people in our country. Anyone willing to pick up a gun and possibly come home in a box fighting halfway across the world, deserves our respect. These men make a commitment to defend our country from any threat, and they DO NOT decide if and when they fight. They are basically making a blind guarantee to bear arms whenever our Congress and President deem fit to use them, so don't fault them for what wars they fight in, but rather the actions they are willing to take.

I encourage any criticism you want towards WHERE they fight and WHY, but direct it towards the big wigs in D.C. who make that decision. The veterans certainly don't deserve it.

Sacrifice is the true measure of love. And we all know the ultimate sacrifice.

Personally, I don't think we deserve their protection. We should just all go on strike until they are brought home. A bunch of whiny Hollywood people are going on strike just to get a raise (instead of trying to help the economy). Makes me sad they did it on veterans day.

Thanks vets. I'd like to spend this day with my family, but everyone has to work. So much for a holiday. I'm also siding with the writers in Hollywood on their strike. They deserve a bigger cut of DVD sales and some form of revenue for new media channels. The producers and big stars are making too much money as it is, while it's the writers and directors who tend to really make or break a film or TV show. Which would you rather see, a movie by some great writers like the Coen brothers, or a movie with Tom Cruise's smug, my-teeth-are-worth-more-than-your-children's-lives grin?

People sometimes forget that those soldiers are relatively more of a victim than anybody else, when the policy that commands them sucks. Whoever serves his/her country deserves appreciation and gratitude from their fellow countrymen. They say here, the moment they die is not when they no longer exist, but when they are forgotten.
