Tutorial on how to setup a server/vps?

hi, does anyone have a link on how to setup a server/vps?

i ahve a vps through cheapvps.co.uk and im in need of help setting it up...

id like to setup a basic LAMP server but instead of apache maybe lighttpd... still not sure on what to use, and along with setting up a firewall, and etc. thanks

 

Isn't the server already installed with basic applications?

 

well sort of, apache comes installed along with a few other packages but php isnt as well as like mysql, and the compilers.

Why don't you use LxAdmin that come free with your VPS ? (lighttpd supported)

 

well the package never installs... always times out so im left out, lxadmin looks great too.

 

Well, it does take some minutes to get installed from hypervm panel, but it installs really.
Contact Rus if you have some issues with this.

 

yea i dont interupt it, i let it do its thing, for liek 10 minutes and firefox just says Error Connection Timed Out and that the server rest the connection because it took so long, i did contact Rus, he said he would fix it and to try it in 10 minutes, i did and it isnt working as of now, im just manually installing now through an sh script file but id rather have the package

id ask for more support, but i dont feel like bothering them right now :|

it comewhat did, but they dont talk about remote servers and command lines that much, really all GUI and i dont have VNC ssetup so yea. but i figured out my lxadmin issues and its setup already, so thanks for all the help guys
