do you know how google tracks the clicks??

Here is my story,

I started an account with blogspot and posted some google ads in it...

I gave the address to my friends...

2 days later,when i visited the adsense page i saw that there were 9 clicks but no money advanced to me???

I asked google about this and their reply is as follows

I am sure I did not click on any of the ads

Is it possible that friends clicking on the ads from the same network has created the problem????

I mean not from the same computer,but from a different system in our college campus....does anybody know how they they track???

 

We do not know. But you better heed roman1's advice. He's not kidding.

 

Even though the computers are different, chances are that to the external world (i.e. Google) they appear to have the same IP address. When you tell family and friends about any sites you create, always be sure to tell them NOT to click to the ads. It will save you trouble.

 

It is possible that the IP address is the same for both machines, (Not the network IP address but the address to the outside world).

If that is the case then Google only knows your server by that one IP address, so if Clicks come from the same IP address as the owner of the account then they assume that you are doing something wrong.

Never tell your friends to click, even better, don’t tell your friends about Adsense, they will be tempted to "do you a favour" and click 50 times on some ad.

computers networked in an area (like an office or library or cyber cafe) tend to have similar IP addreses. even if 50 diferrent people clicked the ads on 50 difeferent PCs, google may see that as invalid clicks.

 

There is a lot more to Google's click fraud detection/prevention than just IP address and cookies. As an adwords advertiser, I'm not going to go into specifics, but google has checks in place to cut down on invalid clicks to deal with sophisticated groups that try to steal money from adwords advertisers.

I'm sure some fraudulent clicks go undetected, but never tell your friends about your sites as it will only be a matter of time before they ban your account.

Hmm, this may bode poorly for me, seeing as ALL my visitors are university students behind college networks...

 

You can easily check if the IP address is indeed different, (depending on the OS).

But I truly believe that Google is also not stupid, they know that many computers can have the same IP address, (and they know IP ranges of PC on campus and cyber cafés). As long as you are not doing anything wrong you should be ok.

These are things which i think they track from.
May be Iam Wrong, but they also use many other systems also.

 

It is not merely a matter of similar IP address as Pierre Zarokian, President of SubmitExpress.com states in his article Click Fraud: Is It Happening to You? at http://developers.evrsoft.com/article/internet-marketing/seo/stop-ppc-click-fraud.shtml:

- Repetition of IP Addresses

- An irregular or large number of clicks coming from the same geographic region or country.

- IP addresses belonging to cloaking software companies

- Keywords that normally do not get any traffic are now getting an unusually high number of clicks.

- Your click throughs have doubled or tripled without having had any bid changes or rank changes

 

If a website is on a campus, dedicated to campus life then the traffic is bound to be from the same IP, the same region and repeated.
In fact I would be surprised if traffic came from anywhere else.
Surely G knows about those special cases.

I think I referred an article above. Well, here are some of the things that might be part of their invalid click detection algo.

- IP address

- User session information

- User cookie information

- The network to which an IP belongs

- The user's browser information

- The search term requested by the user

- The time of the click

- The rank of the advertiser's listing

- The bid of the advertiser's listing

- The time of the search

- The time of the click

Again, it is just speculation about it. GG won't be disclosing how they are detecting invalid clicks in the open, will they?

 

I can’t get to the article, (and it is a bit early for me to start reading articles on click fraud ).
But in any case, the fact remains that G has some rule, and from experience they are quite good at catching fraudsters.

what's the best way to earn on google ads?

 

That also happens to me before. I have more than 10 clicks on a single ads and google didn't pay me. G email me that there's something wrong with clicks and to protect their advertiser, they don't count that click as valid.
