What value do links without anchor text have? for example if I have a link from a very high PR page but the link text is my domain name or an Image, what value does this have for my site? Will this affect my serps rankings for other keywords because my site has more authority?
Cannot see any value from an image; I agree if a keyword is in the domain name then you might get some better SERPs for that keyword.
People don't use anchor texts always ,imo on that situation the text near the link counts. And every link has a value.
Links from an image has less value than links from text or anchor text cause SE spiders ignores stuffs like scripts, images, frames, etc. Better to use anchor text to achieve better SERP ranking (using of course your target KWs)
Agreed, from a SEO value-point, text links are 50 times better than an image link. But if that image link gets you visitors via click throughs, it might actually be more valuable...
It is better to use your anchor text, but in some instances, such as making posts in blogs, your name or url will become the text for your link. I guess if the page is a good one with decent PR and content, then any type of link is worthwhile - though I would try to avoid images as links if possible.
If you are aiming natural link building you should also have links without anchor texts. Think about it which one looks more natural visit my friend's web page at www.xyzdfgh.com visit my friend's web page at super gadgets
Using anchor text will emphasized the relevancy of your keywords in your site and it will help you in improved your rankings.
That's what I was going to say. Yes, anchor text helps. However, it has been my experience the every link counts; even those in images.
This was really what I was getting at, some times you have no choice but the pages are PR7/8. I wondered if google see's a link from a site that it considers to be an authority site that it would give my website more weight on serps in some way or other. Or perhaps crawl deeper into my site? Imagine you have a link from cnn or something but the link text is ww w.website.com, I would presume google will have a new found respect for your site as it links from a very well respected site?
What about an image with alt text with it? wouldn't the spider use the alt text as the text? If so then you could say that an image link was more valuable than a text link because the spiders would associate the alt text and the text in the image file name with the link! . Then what or who crawls for the results of a image search? EDIT: <a href="http://www.example.com" title="reel fun fishing"><img src="images/fishing.jpg" alt="Fishing" /> Code (markup):
IMO, the big website, they doesn't have keyword in their domain but they are ranked very good. Do you think what are their secret?
Essentially this is what I think is causing them to rank so well for multiple keywords but never dominate in these area because there is no dedicated anchor links to back them up. They have lots of links from authority sites, google then says ok this is a reliable website or these sites would not link to it and then gives the content more weight overall. Anyone want to correct me please?
