Want to know how to make a membership site without your own product, using free promotion and make $15,000?

I came across this story a while ago and it is very inspirational story of the potential of making money online.

Both newbies and experieced internet marketers can learn something here.

Here is what it is about:

Idea: Make a membership site and earn $15,000 in 30 days starting with only $150!

    Niche: Crafts

    Time frame: 30 days

Promotion: Free source (forums, yahoo groups, myspace) with a quality upsell using an autoresponder.

Membership Site: A bunch of PLR ebooks on crafts.

I recommend reading this from start to finish. You stand to learn a lot from this guy:
http://www.15kchallenge.com/blog/page/8/ (scroll to the bottom for the very first post - its a blog and you are starting at the first post).

P.S - I know some of you might have seen this before - but it is worth posting for anyone that missed it.

Was he a friend of yours? I think this is your 4th post in a space of two minutes and this is old news so therefore, I will not be clicking on this link.

That site is so hard to navigate :S. The link you gave starts talking about myspace - it's hard to see where the actual challenge and the steps he took are written up?

EDIT: At the end of that page, where does the blog carry on to? I can't see any feed link :\.

    I'm a fast typer :)

don't click the link if you don't want to - makes no difference to me.

I don't know this guy - I just recently came accross the story last week and it gave me a few ideas for my own projects. I know I don't make enough use of PLR to supplement my original content.

Something today reminded me of it so I thought I would post it.

If I see soemthing good I think it is worth sharing - I will share it - simple as that.

I found a better starting page and edited my post - its a blog so you have to read it backwards from the first post - not literally backwards - but you know what I mean :)

I sat down and read through the whole blog myself - some bits I skimmed but it helps to go through it so you completely understand what he did.

No I am not trying the exact same thing - although I may do in future.

I am trying a variety of the promotion techniques he mentioned such as the technique he used with Myspace and yahoo groups - it is quite consuming so I just outsource that to free up my own time.

The results have actually been very good for bringing targetted traffic that convert to sales.

I am also using some of the tactics he uses to sell to his mailing list (along with others I have learnt elsewhere).

But overall I am mixing this with a more holistic approach which involces paid advertising, blogging, PPC, viral marketing etc.

I have not used the technique of creating a membership site from PLR content - in the niches I am developed it is not the best route in my opinion - but in other niches like crafts, tropical fish, learning guitar, money management, self help, makeup etc. it would work very well.

It's a good blog - read through all the posts and comments and inspirational nonetheless.

However, I didn't understand a couple of things. His platinum membership costs $27 but if someone signs up refered by a friend then his net profit will only be $14 per sign up. That requires a ton of people having to sign up.

Secondly, the affiliates marketing works how? I didn't see any link on his website linked to selling affiliates' product other than the links under "Crafting Resources" and I find it hard that people would click on these and buy those products. Even if they did he would get $10 per conversion from affiliates?

I think if you look at the final results affiliate commissions were minimal - most profits were from his own promotions.
