Had pong so young i cant remeber and Ya i had all the games too at like age 10 or so

But i had a texas instruments too later on and i was programming in TI basic at age 13 or 14
at 15 i was flunked out of our highschools 1st computers class for cheating the final by hacking they used apples then i went on to win 95 and 98 and 2000 server was my fav.. still is.. im 36 now :)

My dad used the old punch cards and tape he worked for general electric in mebane n.c. on an old GE 600 series.. so its kinda in my blood..

Hes past on now but i still have some of those old cards and his lunch box..
He used to bring them and the tape home to me often when i was a little child back in the early 70s for me to play with he called them (goodys) i was so fascinated when hed talk about his work. God that was the best days of my life back then..:)

It was autumn, 1965. I was a 22-year-old graduate student in the University of Pittsburg's MBA program. My classmates and I were taking a computer programming course. The language we used was MAD (Michigan Algorithm Decoder). That was so early in the history of computing that our keyboard entry was via the keyboard of a punch-card machine . Then those punched cards were fed into a hopper and the computer "read" them as the cards flowed through. Talk about "Stone Age"!

The computers themselves were this massive, interlinked set of reel-to-reel machines. They took up floor space the size of an average house. I have no idea what the CPU was, or the memory. But I am certain that my MacBook Pro laptop alone would have absolutely crushed that whole university computer system.

Ironically, that was the last computer course I took until I began to self-study website design almost 40 years later. And now — and I really enjoy this :) — I'm learning lots of good information from you fellow DP members, many of whom are younger than my adult kids! I truly believe you are never too old to learn.

At the age of 7 it is.... very interesting how most other people here fall within the same vote category... either we are all roughly the same age, this time period is about when you can understand how to use a computer, or the category is too broad.

Thanks for the story Jim :) I remember seeing pictures of computers like those. Wow, that's pretty cool to say that you worked with some of the first computers invented. That's awsome! Did you save any of those punch cards? I bet they are worth something now.
