    Human nature. People see what, for example, a nurse earns and then they compare that with what Terry gets for kicking a ball around on a bit of grass. Analysing it from a functional perspective like that it does seem a bit excessive and it does seem society has its priorities wrong. However market forces and all that dicate that it's perfectly reasonable.

    As an aside my brother-in-law is a history professor at Berkley. He really resents the fact that the college sports coaches earn more than he does!

    I'd ask him how much revenue does his work generate minus tax subsidies. Football is a profit center and tell the world in one way that this is a big league school. I earned a degree from Cal Irvine and I know the professors there are paid quite well for talking about things they are interested in that may or may not be of any value to the students or tax payers that subsidize the institution.
