Former NYC Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik has surrendered to federal authorities after being indicted on corruption charges. Kerik was Rudy Giuliani's right hand man in the aftermath of 9/11, and he was selected by President Bush to be the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security before he withdrew his own name after a few people in the media did a background check on him. Rudy has really thrown Kerik under the bus in the past few weeks, abandoning a man who had become close friends with both him and the president. He claims his patronage of Kerik was a mistake, but many of the charges against Kerik stem from the fact that Kerik was influencing city hall while his was police commish. He also continued to back him during the couple of days after he was nominated for head of Homeland Security, despite the various allegations coming out in the press, some of which may now send him to prison.
